Acura NSX Type S 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.

Acura’s flagship model isn’t a large sedan or even a decked-out full-size SUV; it’s the Acura NSX Type S sports car, which uses a hybrid powertrain. A twin-turbo V-6 and three electric motors combine to provide blistering acceleration, but the system also allows for quiet, clean driving so your neighbors don’t have a cow every time you drive through your subdivision.

Other similarly priced sports cars like the McLaren 570S and Mercedes-AMG GT offer sharper handling or more raw power, but the NSX is easier to live with on a daily basis. Of course, there are some drawbacks, including the dated cabin and infotainment system; storage space inside the NSX isn’t generous either.

What’s new ?

We have good news and bad news. The good news is that the Acura NSX Type S will wear the vaunted Type S badge and come with a 600-horsepower version of the supercar’s twin-turbo V-6 hybrid powertrain as standard. The bad news: will be the NSX’s final model year before it’s discontinued, and only 300 will be offered for sale in Europe. Along with the pumped-up powertrain, the model will wear tweaked front-end styling and Type S badging.

Acura doesn’t divide the NSX lineup into trims, so there’s only a single model that you can customize to your liking. Acura hasn’t set a price for the new Type-S model yet , nor do we have a detailed list of standard and optional features, but we’ll update this story with that information when we get it.

Engine, transmission and performance

While it will certainly satisfy your need for speed, the NSX can’t outdo some key rivals like the Audi R8 or McLaren 570S. In our testing, it still posted lightning-quick acceleration times, managing a 3.1-second zero-to-60 mph run with the 573-hp version of its hybrid powertrain. Its all-electric Quiet mode, however, gives it something its rivals don’t: discretion. The NSX Type S ‘s 600-hp hybrid-electric powertrain combines a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with three electric motors. The V-6, nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and one of the electric motors work as a team to drive the rear wheels.

The other two electric motors work independently to power the front wheels, effectively giving the NSX all-wheel drive. In Quiet and Sport modes, the steering is direct and precise but lightly touched, which we think is an attempt to make the NSX maneuverable in everyday driving. However, such a setup feels out of place in such a performance-focused vehicle. In Sport Plus and Track modes, the electric power steering adds weight. Regardless of the setting, the steering is crisp and the car responds intelligently to the smallest driver inputs.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Hybrid vehicles are more efficient in stop-and-go city traffic than their gasoline-only rivals, and the NSX is no different. An EPA rating of 21 mpg in the city beats the Audi R8 V-10 by a whopping 7 mpg. The Porsche 911 matches the NSX’s 21 mpg rating in the city and beats the NSX on the highway with a 28 mpg rating; the NSX is rated for 22 mpg highway. In our real-world highway fuel economy test, the NSX delivered a decent 23 mpg, easily beating its EPA rating but falling behind its non-hybrid competitors. Interior, comfort and cargo

Billed as an everyday supercar, the NSX is certainly comfortable and intuitive enough to use as a daily driver. But its cabin lacks the premium feel and luxury amenities you’d expect from an Acura, let alone one designed to compete with the best from England and Germany. Our test car featured the optional leather and suede seats, faux suede headliner and carbon fiber-trimmed steering wheel.

The bright red leather appealed to the younger crowd on our staff, but some found it garish and juvenile. While the seats are comfortable, we’d prefer more thigh support, and keen drivers will likely want more side bolstering as well. For something marketed as an everyday supercar, the NSX’s interior storage compartments aren’t particularly spacious. Its trunk is located directly behind the engine, which could be problematic for transporting your Häagen-Dazs home. Plus, we only managed to fit one of our carry-on suitcases into the tiny trunk.

Infotainment and connectivity

A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated navigation is standard and connects to a nine-speaker ELS Studio stereo. As with some other interior bits, the touchscreen system comes from lesser Acura and Honda, and the same complaints we have about them apply here. The system’s interface already looks dated, and we found the menu setup unintuitive. To make matters worse, the lack of redundant buttons and the awkward touch-sensitive volume knob that makes precise adjustments difficult add an extra layer of complexity.

Safety and driver assistance functions

The NSX’s lack of driver-assistance features could be a concern for safety-conscious consumers, but a comprehensive standard airbag system provides an acceptable level of protection. For more information on the NSX’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

Standard parking sensors front and rear

  • Warranty and maintenance coverage

Acura offers some of the most comprehensive coverage in the segment. While Audi , BMW and Porsche offer a four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty, none offer as much powertrain coverage as Acura. The NSX’s sophisticated hybrid-electric components are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles.

Price Acura NSX Type S
