Acura RDX 2025: Update and a new standard in the compact crossover class
The first update to the luxury compact crossover brings the Performance Edition. The Type S is official, while the hybrid model is not coming next season. The Acura RDX is still fresh and attractive. However, the new edition will make a modification that draws attention to the crossover.
SUV RDX
The RDX will offer a powerful turbo four as a base engine. With 272 hp, it is one of the most powerful engines in the class. Compared to its larger sibling, the Acura MDX, the compact model also offers all-wheel drive with super handling. Sport Hybrid is not available then.
But the Acura RDX Type S will get the party started with probably 400 horsepower under the hood. The interior and exterior of the RDX remain unchanged. You can still upgrade your ride with the A-Spec package. It’s a cosmetic tune with more aggressive styling. The crossover retains the exterior and interior colors.
styling
The Acura RDX is an attractive and luxurious model that keeps fighting its way through the class. The fresh model made an immediate impression and the best indicator is a sales figure that has already increased in the last season. RDX is available in nine colors. One of them is only available with certain packages. Inside there are five colors. The compact crossover uses 19-inch wheels, while 20-inch wheels are optional. Other versions and special designs are available with some feature packages.
Buyers can choose these colors: Platinum Pearl White, Lunar Steel Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Majestic Black Pearl, Fathom Blue Pearl, Performance Red Pearl, Canyon Bronze Metallic and Gunmetal Metallic. The only color available with the Technology Package is Apex Blue Pearl. The interior can be Ebony, Parchment or Premium Red.
Packages
There are three trim levels with packages ready for the upgrade. The base trim could be replaced with features included in the Technology package. Unique 19-inch wheels upgrade the exterior while Milano leather wraps the seats. GPS climate control is the interior enhancement. There is also a navigation 3D system, premium audio with 12 speakers and additional USB ports for the rear seat. Safety is provided by parking sensors, blind spot monitors and rear cross traffic alert.
The A Spec tuning is one of the most interesting equipment packages for Acura crossovers and SUVs. This one improves the appearance, not the performance, as its names might confuse you. As standard, buyers get 20-inch five-spoke wheels, unique bumpers, LED fog lights and a special fascia with an updated grille and bumper. You can recognize this version by dual exhaust tips and black rear spoilers. The seats are ventilated and heated. Contrast stitching enhances the overall impression. Also optional equipment. A-Spec comes with sport pedals and 16-speaker audio.
The top-of-the-line upgrade for the Acura RDX is the Advance package. The wheels are downsized to 19 inches, but engineers have added an adaptive damper system. Inside the cockpit, drivers will find a 10-inch HUD, 16-way power front seats, wood accents, and even more safety measures.
Specifications
The crossover is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. While most competitors can produce 250 to 260 horsepower, the Acura RDX offers 272 ponies from its turbocharged unit. Also, the engine produces 280 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, the compact crossover can’t haul too much as the towing capacity is limited to 1,500 pounds. A 10-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the front wheels. Optionally, you can purchase the AWD. It’s the famous Super Handling System with improved traction and balance. Well, it will cost you €2,000 (Euros). The crossover returns 25 mpg combined, or 23 mpg if you use the AWD and A Spec package.
Acura RDX Type S.
The new top model in the class is on the way. The automaker previously announced that the Type S vehicle is in development, but did not reveal which model will receive it. Now we are pretty sure that a compact crossover is a pioneer. Compared to the MDX, the Acura RDX does not offer an alternative power source. The midsize three-row SUV comes with the Sport Hybrid variant. In the compact segment, a hybrid powertrain is more needed. The Type S could achieve two goals if engineers tweak an existing hybrid and turn it into PHEV with 400 hp. The crossover still needs V6 power and a mighty electric battery to squeeze every horsepower out of it.
Prices
The Acura RDX’s MSRP remains at $38,500 at destination. As we said, SH-AWD costs $2,000 and the Technology Package is worth $3,200. A Spec Bundle price is $3,000, while most options come with a $4,900 Advance Package. The heavily loaded RDX costs just under $50,000. That mark is broken when the Type S appears. Without too many options, the Performance Package raises the price to a much higher level.
