Alfa Romeo Tonale 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
The all-new Alfa Romeo Tonale looks set to inject some Italian blood into the fray of subcompact luxury crossovers. With its curvy body accentuated by Alfa’s sharp-nosed face, the Tonale is as beautiful as they come. What’s more, it’s expected to offer a short-range electric plug-in hybrid powertrain.
SUV Alfa Romeo Giulia
While that and many other facets of the small SUV are still unknown, the company has promised to continue Alfa’s tradition of fun-to-drive. Throw in a high seat height and all-wheel-drive option that consumers crave, plus the potential for a high-performance Quadrifoglio model – and the Tonale will be a compelling new entry.
What’s new ?
The all-new Tonale debuted in concept form at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and more recently we’ve leaked images of it in production form. While we wait for official details on the version that will hit U.S. showrooms, we know it will slot below the Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV and compete with subcompact alternatives like the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40 .
Alfa has not revealed how much the Tonale will cost or when it will go on sale. Once that information is released, we will be able to detail which model we think is the most desirable. Chances are it will follow the same ordering hierarchy as the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. Their lineups are: base model, Sport, Ti, Ti Sport and Ti Lusso. They also offer a high-performance Quadrifoglio variant that could eventually reach the Tonale as well.
Engine, transmission and performance
Although full details are yet to be revealed, we expect the eventual production version to be based on a front-wheel drive platform, departing from the company’s current rear-wheel drive architecture. Of course, an all-wheel drive system will undoubtedly be available to meet consumer demands. The plug-in hybrid model will have a rear-mounted electric motor assisting an internal combustion engine up front – most likely a turbocharged four-cylinder. Despite the mechanical departures showcased on the Tonale, Alfa promises to retain the driver engagement and performance traits that are the brand’s legendary hallmarks.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Until we know more about what’s under the Tonale’s hood, we can’t verify the crossover’s EPA-rated fuel economy. If rumors about the plug-in hybrid version associated with the Jeep Compass and Renegade PHEVs are true, it could have an all-electric range of about 31 miles.
Interior, comfort and cargo
Looking beyond some of the concept’s quirky interior features like the translucent backlit panels, we expect many design elements and technology features to make their way into the production model. The circular air vents and driver-centric dashboard are obviously evolved from current Alfa models. The concept’s dashboard also featured a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and the three-spoke steering wheel adds a modern twist to a classic design. The introduction of front-wheel drive could help with interior packaging compared to rear-wheel drive Alfas. However, that space could be compromised by the battery pack and electric motor that define plug-in hybrids.
Infotainment and connectivity
The Tonale concept featured a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with unique content called “Alfista” and “Paddock” that should delight Alfa Romeo fanatics. The former allows people to connect with Alfa clubs and community events, and the latter offers a virtual marketplace to buy performance parts and Alfa-branded merchandise. We expect other traditional content like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and an optional premium audio system.
Safety and driver assistance functions
The Tonale has not been crash-tested by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Alfa has not disclosed what driver-assistance equipment will be offered, but we expect the list to include modern features like automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
Warranty and maintenance coverage
We expect the Tonale to be covered by Alfa’s comprehensive limited warranty and powertrain warranty. It should also benefit from the company’s basic free servicing.
Alfa Romeo Tonale Price
Considering that Tonale is still under development, although it is in the final stages, the final price is approximate.
But do not forget that Alfa Romeo Tonale is a premium class brand and you should not expect a budget pricing policy, especially since the investment will have to be repaid and, of course, this will come at the expense of a generous markup. So far, the price of the hybrid is forecast at 45-55 thousand euros.
