Audi A2 E-Tron EV 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
It seems Audi is getting ready to dust off the A2 badge for a new small hatchback, the Audi A2 E-Tron EV, but instead of giving it frugal combustion engines like the original model did, it will be an EV. It is set to ride on an adaptation of the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which has already underpinned the Q4 E-Tron electric crossover .
Audi A2 E-Tron EV
Interestingly, the report goes on to say that Audi could capitalize on the immense popularity of crossovers by launching an Audi A2 E-Tron EV to complement the hatchback and track the Mercedes EQA as well as the future BMW iX1 . It should be mentioned that such a zero-emissions SUV already exists, as the Four Rings has been selling a long-wheelbase Q2 E-Tron since 2019, but it is exclusively available in China.
A fully electric hatchback for city use has already been presented by Audi through the AI:ME concept, although the main focus was on its Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities. A potential production version would not be as advanced as the price would be too high for the segment it would compete in. However, the idea of a cheaper zero-emission car with premium aspirations seems very plausible as there are people looking for a more upmarket alternative to the VW ID.3 and Cupra Born .
Specifications
A modern Audi A2 would replace the Audi A1 Sportback, whose future looks uncertain. Developing the vehicle on the MEB, more specifically on its upcoming shorter and less expensive version informally called “MEB-Lite”, may allow the company to design it with the same or more cabin space with the same or smaller external dimensions. The A2 electric could use a battery pack of around 50 kWh, made up of cells in the Unified Cell design. Audi could aim for a WLTP range of at least 300 km (186 miles).
Alternatively, Audi could take the VW ID.3’s original MEB platform for a compact electric hatchback along the lines of the Cupra Born if the project is a high priority. The third option is the advanced PPE architecture, which Audi says will underpin B-segment models in the future. The basis for the A2 will then depend on which segment Audi sees potential for an electric hatchback and how early it wants to enter the segment.
Release date and price
The next generation A2 could once again appear as a concept and further development of the Audi AI:ME, possibly a near-production concept. This would give Audi the necessary feedback before the market launch, which we expect to unfold before the end of . The base price of the Audi A2 EV is expected to cost between 22,000 and 25,000 euros.
