Audi Q9 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data. E-Tron
How long will it take for Audi to launch the new SUV? We’re betting on the Audi Q9 E-Tron. There are a few reasons why we believe this is a real option. First of all, the company registered this nameplate for the future.
Audi Q9 E-Tron
Then there was no Q8 in the lineup and the German company built it. The Q9 will follow the same path. Finally, a true full-size luxury SUV spot is free in the lineup and it’s only a matter of time when the family is completed.
The production of the Audi Q9 E-Tron will not start anytime soon. The company will need some time to develop a new model. It could come next year as a platform and the concept will be used for the future premium full-size SUV. Also, the Q9 will be closely related to the Audi pickup truck. Two vehicles use the same platform. Some rumors say that the Q9 will actually be a truck. Nonsense.
Well, there are still many questions regarding the new big rig. One of the main concerns is how it will be accepted in the market. We can see differences in the approaches of US, Japanese and German automakers. In any case, the Q9 will need something to respond to Mercedes and BMW models. Of course, Audi is not revealing any details, but the latest addition from its arch-rivals will make them speed up development.
New concept
The arrival of the Audi Q8 did not meet expectations. Fans wanted to see the large SUV and the company delivered a coupe version of the mid-size Q7 to compete with Mercedes GLE and BMW X6 . As soon as the vehicle was launched, the new speculations appeared. Now we analyze the possibilities of the Audi Q9 debut in . In any case, the German automaker needs such a unit to compete with BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS .
Well, the new SUV needs fresh architecture. Currently, the Q8 is the largest vehicle in the range, but it is still not the full-size model. It is 196 inches long and has a 118-inch wheelbase. That is 7/4 inches (overall length / wheelbase) shorter than the BMW X7 and 8/5 inches less than the GLS.
Also, Audi needs to create the platform that will support the further upgrades. Special attention will be given to the electric/hybrid capability. Sooner or later, the company will have to introduce these types of engines. Audi is already quite active in this segment, with the new E-Tron platform raising expectations.
Technical data
Another big mystery is the powertrain of the Audi Q9. Most of its competitors use powerful V8 units. On the other hand, the German automaker is likely to stick to a powerful V6 unit rather than exploring the new engineering sectors.
The Q9 may get the same powertrain as its smaller siblings, the Q7 and Q8. We’re not sure the SUV could attract too much attention with 335 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque from the 3.0L supercharged V6. For the Audi A8 sedan, the same engine is tuned to produce 335 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of twist, but it’s still not enough for the full-size category.
The sport segment could help there. A 2.9-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 444 hp and 443 lb-ft. Engineers can tune it to deliver even more power and torque. But the displacement is too small. The weight difference between RS5, where it’s currently used, and the new Q9 will be over 1,000 pounds, so how these two can work is a big question.
There is also a powerful V10 from the R8 sports car. The problem is the same, but the V10 has a much larger displacement (5.2 liters) and produces 540-610 hp. This could be the solution for the Q9.
Audi E-Tron is the all-new electric SUV concept. The vehicle is already announced for Europe, but the US release date is not yet available. That was enough for rumors to start swirling that the new Audi Q9 will be based on the E-Tron concept. Well, with 402 horsepower and 490 pound-feet of torque, the electric SUV would be competitive in the market. Add in the 250-mile range, and that’s a good reason to consider this one of the best full-size SUVs, even among the gasoline competitors.
Q9 Truck
Well, the whole story about the Audi Q9 E-Tron is still speculative. There is not too much evidence. At the end of this article, we left the last rumor, and we believe that this is the least likely one. We can hear for a long time that Audi is developing a pickup truck. Recently, according to the rumors, the name Q9 was mentioned. In this case, what nameplate is left for the full-size SUV? This is a far more important segment than a luxury truck, especially since BMW and Mercedes already sell their models in Europe.
