BMW 7er 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
If you’re looking for a big car to drive, the BMW 7 Series checks a lot of boxes, especially for its spacious and relaxing cabin that can be equipped with all sorts of luxury features.
BMW 7 Series Sedan
All models are powered by a silky-smooth powertrain that ranges from an inline-six in the base 740i to twin-turbo V-8 and V-12 options; there’s even a plug-in hybrid model that can run up to 17 miles on electricity before switching to its gasoline engine.
Drivers won’t find much to keep themselves entertained, as BMW’s largest sedan takes a comfort-first approach, but the 7 Series doesn’t disappoint as a cruiser, as its compliant ride easily erases road imperfections.
What’s new ?
Only one change is coming: buyers will be able to order remote parking as a stand-alone option. Otherwise, BMW’s flagship sedan will carry over unchanged from . The
lead-footed among us may disagree, but the base powertrain – a turbocharged inline-six – in the 740i is perfectly suited to this car’s laid-back nature. It offers plenty of grip when you need it, but otherwise it’s quiet and smooth, so we’d recommend it. Plus, the lower starting price frees up your money to invest in some luxury interior features. We’d splurge on the Driving Assistance Professional package, which includes a semi-autonomous driving mode that’s particularly useful in traffic jams, so we can relax and let the car do some of the work.
Engine, transmission and performance
Engines and transmissions top the short list of highlights. Every engine here, from the 740i’s 320-hp turbocharged inline-six to the M760i’s insane 601-hp twin-turbo V-12, is velvety smooth and feels more muscular than the official horsepower numbers indicate. Even the 745e Plug-in, with its combination of turbocharged six-cylinder engine and electric motor, is powerful and manages to drive with a natural feel that most hybrids lack. Every 7 Series shares some variation of the same slick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive (xDrive in BMW marketing parlance) is optional on the 740i and standard on the rest of the range. No matter which drive mode you choose, the suspension is pillow-soft and body control is in short supply. The 7 Series has adequate cornering grip, but the suspension’s movements in general – and the numb, light steering in particular – discourage exploring.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Without the thirsty 12-cylinder M760i, the 7 Series overall would have an impressive set of EPA fuel economy ratings. The six-cylinder 740i and 750i both delivered above-average numbers on our 200-mile real-world highway fuel economy test route at 30 and 40 mpg, respectively. The 745e plug-in hybrid model uses a 12.0-kWh battery pack that’s said to provide up to 17 miles of all-electric driving. Housed in the trunk, the pack can be charged using 110-volt, 220-volt, or DC fast-charging systems, with the latter two recommended for a quick juice-up. For more information on the 7 Series’ fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.
Interior, comfort and cargo
For decades, BMW ‘s interior aesthetic has been staid and businesslike. That was acceptable when its cars were more about the serious business of driving. Without that ethos, the latest 7 Series gives occupants the bandwidth to notice build quality, materials and design that are merely average for this rich segment.
Sure, roomy, but so is any sedan in this class. It’s luxurious, but a turn around in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or even the Genesis G90, and you’ll expect more from a car that starts north of $80,000. By the numbers, the BMW’s 18-cubic-foot trunk is at least two cubic feet larger than rivals like the Cadillac CT6 and G90. But the reality of packing with real-size carry-on luggage tells a different story: Our 740i test vehicle’s trunk fit only three carry-on suitcases, while the other sedans held twice as many.
Infotainment and connectivity
BMW’s iDrive infotainment system has long since put its early teething issues behind it and become a clean, attractive interface. The latest version, called iDrive 7.0, can be manipulated via the touchscreen or a quick and intuitive control on the center console. The system can also recognize certain hand gestures for some commands, but our experience with those ranges from annoying to infuriating, so it’s better to use the touchscreen or rotary controller. Every 7 Series offers two USB ports for front passengers and four 12-volt plugs scattered throughout. Bluetooth is standard, and a Samsung tablet with a dock between the rear seats is optional, giving passengers remote access to some infotainment features. Apple CarPlay is standard; oddly, Android Auto is not available.
Safety and driver assistance functions
The latest driver-assistance features, from blind-spot monitoring to semi-autonomous, self-steering cruise control on the highway, are available or standard on every 7 Series. For more information on the 7 Series’ crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard low-speed automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Available lane departure warning and lane keeping assist
- Available adaptive cruise control
Warranty and maintenance coverage
A free scheduled maintenance plan for three years or 36,000 miles included with every 7 Series is a benefit not offered by rivals from Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Both the Volvo S90 and Genesis G90 match BMW’s free maintenance plan, but the G90 has longer warranty periods.
Price BMW 7 Series
The seventh generation of the BMW 7 Series will be presented in the course of . According to rumors – which have since been confirmed as false – the 7 Series should already be seen as a concept car at this year’s IAA. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a little longer until further details about the luxury model are known.
This also applies to the prices. The current model starts at just under 92,000 euros, so you’ll have to spend a bit more for the new 7 Series. We estimate that it will cost at least 97,000 euros.
