BMW i7er EV 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
Last year, Oliver Zipse, CEO of BMW, confirmed that BMW will introduce the electric variant of the BMW i7 Series EV in the next generation in and that the electric variant will be its most powerful variant.
Sedan i7er EV
The BMW i7 Series EV will not be a standalone EV like the Mercedes EQS , but a next-generation 7 Series variant. It would be distinguishable from the donor model, however. Unlike the plug-in hybrid variant, which will receive mild visual changes, the all-electric variant would have a bold exterior and new trim to give the i7 a different identity.
The BMW i7 Series EV could feature clear surfaces to improve airflow around the car . Clear aero lips, strips on the aprons that conceal the battery technology and rear diffuser elements that fill the design space opened by the exhaust pipes are just a few examples of possible aerodynamic efficiency-enhancing design measures. The i7’s design recipe should include BMW’s signature four-eyed front in a modern and understated way and the blue i-style accent on the grille. Behind the electric sedan’s kidney grille there may be a wealth of sensors needed for autonomous driving systems and active safety systems.
Features
Air suspension, soft-close doors, flush door handles and Bowers & Wilkins audio system will be standard on the next-generation BMW 7 Series. Optional premium features include auto-closing doors like those found on Rolls-Royce models , high-end headlights, the Iconic Glow grille (illuminated grille) and the Sky Lounge roof. In addition, customers can opt for Motorway Assist, a new autonomous driving system package and a natural AI-enabled voice assistant.
“Smart Routes” & Digital Key 3.0 expected for the new BMW 7 Series family
BMW is already working on the next generation of the Digital Key with Ultra Wideband technology. iPhone users can now use their device as a fully digital car key to perform important functions on their BMW. Users only need to tap their screen to unlock, and they can start the vehicle by placing their iPhone in the designated smartphone tray and pressing the start button. They can perform these functions via the BMW smartphone app available on the phone. The various functions also include:
- Access to the vehicle can be shared with up to 5 friends.
- Car access can be configured for younger drivers, limiting top speed, horsepower, maximum music volume, etc.
- The vehicle access data is stored in the iPhone’s Secure Element and can also be accessed via Apple Wallet.
- Built-in power reserve feature for iPhones that allows car keys to function for up to five hours in case the phone turns off due to a low battery.
It is compatible with Apple watches.
The BMW 7 Series Electric is expected to support the 3.0 version of the Digital Key, which promises additional convenience and features. Digital Key 3.0 uses Bluetooth Low Energy and Ultra-Wideband technology to perform various functions. This would mean that consumers may no longer need to take out their smartphone and hold it next to the door handle to unlock it. Passive access to the vehicle via these new features will allow owners to leave their smartphone in their pocket or bag.
Expected highlights also include a new “Smart Routes” feature that uses Apple Maps to choose an optimal route based on the vehicle’s electric range and the locations of charging stations along the way. This feature is expected to be accessible via the Apple CarPlay feature on the infotainment screens.
Variants
The BMW iX will be available in two regular variants (xDrive40 & xDrive50) at launch, and a hot M60 variant is in the pipeline for future release. Reports suggest a similar range for the BMW i7, the all-electric variant of the next-generation BMW 7 Series.
Previously, it was said that the BMW i7 will be available in i740, i750 and M60 variants. It was speculated that the i740 could have the cheapest MSRP, the i750 the longest range and the M60 the fastest acceleration on the tarmac. Presumably, the BMW Group has now changed the variant names to make the positioning and layout of the powertrain easier for customers to understand due to their similarity to the 7 Series variant names.
Specifications
The BMW i7eDrive45/BMW i740i could have a single motor in the rear, while the BMW i7 xDrive50/BMW i750i and BMW i7 M60 could have a dual-motor all-wheel drive system.
The BMW iX will launch with two battery pack options, one with a gross energy storage capacity of over 76.6 kWh and one with a gross energy storage capacity of 111.5 kWh. The BMW i7 can be equipped with 80 kWh and 120 kWh battery packs, offering a range of around 500 km (WLTP) and 650-700 km (WLTP), respectively. The top-end BMW 7 Series electric model would support fast charging with at least 200 kW, powerful enough to achieve a range of 100 km (62 miles) in around ten minutes.
Competitors
The BMW i7 Series EV will compete primarily with the full-size Mercedes EQS , and to a significant extent with electric sedans such as the Tesla Model S , the Porsche Taycan , the Lucid Air , and perhaps even the Audi e-tron GT . The Volkswagen Group has a real competitor in – the Audi Landjet (project name).
BMW i7 Price & Release Date
The BMW Group plans to sell around ten million electric cars by 2030. Three new BMW electric cars are to be presented by , including the electric version of the 7 Series.
