BMW M8 Gran Coupe 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe is not only more visually interesting than its two-door counterparts, but also more practical thanks to additional doors and an extended wheelbase. While practicality is often a low priority with a six-figure price tag, the four-door M8 allows the driver to showcase the sedan’s supercar-like acceleration to a wider audience – three passengers rather than a single driver of a sports car.

BMW M8 Gran Coupe

The theatrical experience is created by a silky 617-hp twin-turbo V-8, a snappy eight-speed automatic and an all-wheel-drive system with rear-drive mode that enables drifts and burnouts. The youthful action is enjoyed in a cabin that’s beautifully appointed and loaded with desirable luxury features. While the BMW M8 Gran Coupe delivers outrageous performance, it suffers from sterile driving manners and a nervous ride, making the more balanced Audi RS7 and more engaging   Mercedes ML  our preferred choices.

What’s new ?

For , every M8 Gran Coupe now comes with all the performance goodies of the Competition Package standard. The list of improvements includes an increase to 617 hp (up from 600), an M Sport exhaust system, more aggressive suspension tuning, a Track driving mode and more. The best part? Despite all these extras, BMW charges the same for the BMW M8 Gran Coupe as it did for last year’s non-Competitive version, saving about €14,000 (Euros). Also new is a set of lightweight M Carbon bucket seats that can be customized.

We’d be happy with the less expensive BMW M850i Gran Coupe (reviewed separately) and its detuned twin-turbo V-8, but the M8 Gran Coupe is the only antidote for BMW enthusiasts who want the company’s fastest four-door to 60 mph. Now that the Competition package is standard , we can spend the savings on our favorite upgrades. We’d choose the most expensive paint option (Frozen Bluestone metallic) and pony up for the two-tone Ivory White and Midnight Blue Merino leather upholstery. We’d also choose the Comfort Seating package, which adds remote start, multiple heated surfaces, and retractable shades for the rear seat. Individually, the carbon-ceramic brakes upgrade the Gran Coupe’s M-Class over the 8 Series and better stand up to the rigors of a track day. Speaking of track action, we recommend the M Driver’s Pack, which includes a day of professional training to learn how to safely exploit the M8’s talents and maybe briefly forget how much it costs. Choosing the latter option also increases the electrically limited top speed from 155 to 190 mph.

Engine, transmission and performance

The M8 Gran Coupe is powered by a stout 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 that makes 617 horsepower thanks to the adoption of the previously optional Competition Package. The exceptionally smooth engine sends that power to all four wheels via a responsive eight-speed automatic transmission, but tail-out antics are made possible by a selectable rear-drive mode that channels all of the V-8’s fury to the rear. This rocket-powered four-door rocketed to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 10.8 ticks at 129 mph. Those numbers are impressive for some supercars, let alone a sedan that weighs more than 4300 pounds. While it’s incredibly quick and offers more than 1.0 g of cornering grip, the big M8 suffers from indifferent steering feel and a stiff ride that compromises its comfort. A specially tuned adaptive suspension is standard and can be adjusted via the sedan’s customizable or preset drive modes, but even the softest damper setting isn’t soft at all. Its powerful brakes will pull it down from 70 mph in an impressively short 147 feet, but the Bimmer’s brake-by-wire system returned uneven responses through the pedal regardless of the two available brake settings (comfort and sport).

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

With estimates of 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, the V-8-powered M8 Gran Coupe certainly won’t be mistaken for a hybrid. However, those numbers are on par with other fast four-doors in this class, such as the GT63 S (16 mpg city, 21 highway) and the RS7 (15 mpg city, 22 highway). We didn’t test the M8 GC on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, which is part of our extensive testing program, but when we get the chance, we may evaluate its real-world mpg. For more information on the M8 Gran Coupe’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

Interior, comfort and cargo

The M8 Gran Coupe has an exquisitely appointed interior that looks as rich as it feels. While the design is dignified rather than glitzy, the four-door M8 offers ample room for rear passengers. It also offers a wealth of desirable standard features like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 16-way front seats with memory settings, heating and ventilation, four-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery and more. Buyers can also upgrade the cabin with novel color schemes and fancy trim elements, as well as a Comfort Seat package. This adds heated seats as well as power sunshades for rear passengers. While the rear seat has three seatbelts – as opposed to rear buckets in the GT63 S – the middle seat is best left unoccupied except for the shortest of trips. The Gran Coupe’s trunk offers 11 cubic feet of storage, but that’s 15 cubes less (25 total) than the volume under the RS7 ‘s tailgate .

Infotainment and connectivity

Every M8 Gran Coupe comes with a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that can also be operated with a rotary control on the center console. In addition to its 16-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, the beefy BMW comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot as standard, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Those who aren’t happy with the standard audio unit can upgrade to a more powerful Bowers & Wilkins setup.

Safety and driver assistance functions

While there is a wealth of driver-assistance technology available, everything except forward collision warning and automated emergency braking costs extra. For more information on the M8 Gran Coupe’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

  • Available adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology
  • Available blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert
  • Available lane departure warning and lane keeping assist

Warranty and maintenance coverage

BMW offers a competitive limited warranty and powertrain warranty compared to the plans of its luxury rivals. It also makes Mercedes-AMG look bad by offering free scheduled maintenance.
