BMW X4 M 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
The BMW X4 M is the point in the product range where high style and high performance meet. A striking fastback roofline and up to 503 hp under the hood underline the appeal of this SUV.
SUV BMW X4 M
To match its quick acceleration, BMW installs a sport-tuned chassis with handling so sharp that drivers can shake the X4 M around a race track and keep up with most sports cars almost anywhere.
The cabin environment is upscale and there’s plenty of room for most adults to get comfortable, but tall people may find rear headroom a little tight – after all, that choppy roof comes with some compromises. Other sloping-roof SUVs suffer the same fate, but buyers who need to maximize interior space in the name of style can opt for the X3 M (tested separately), which is almost identical, save for a boxy body that’s better suited to hauling people and cargo.
What’s new ?
Like the regular X4, the high-performance X4 M gets some subtle styling upgrades . Larger grille openings, narrower headlights and revised front and rear bumpers distinguish the refreshed X4 M from last year’s model. The infotainment display has grown from 10.3 to 12.3 inches. More important for us driving enthusiasts is a revision of the SUV’s engine to produce more torque; horsepower remains the same on both X4 M models.
The Competition model’s more powerful engine is worth every penny, so we recommend it here. We’d also skip the Driver Assistance Plus package, which adds adaptive cruise control and more advanced driver assistance features; the Executive package is also an intriguing addition, as it includes an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot, a head-up display, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a self-parking feature.
Engine, transmission and performance
Both models come with a turbocharged inline-six, standard all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The X4 M’s engine produces 473 horsepower, but the Competition model is dialed up to 503. When we tested the Competition at our test track, it delivered brutal acceleration, jumping to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds. That beats the X4’s main rival, the Mercedes-AMG GLC63, which raced from zero to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds. In fact, the X4 M Competition even outperformed BMW’s famous M3 sports sedan, partly due to the extra traction that comes from its standard all-wheel drive system. (The M3 only drives its rear wheels.) The standard X4’s driving character is already sharp, and the M division’s retuning of the suspension makes for an even tighter ride and even more impressive cornering grip.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
When it comes to high-performance SUVs, we don’t expect much fuel efficiency, but the X4 M’s EPA fuel economy ratings are atrocious at 14 mpg city, 19 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined. The V-8-powered GLC63 Coupe earns ratings as high as 22 mpg highway, and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio carries a 23-mpg highway rating. Fortunately, the X4 M Competition performs much better than expected in the real world. It surprised us on our 200-mile highway fuel economy route by delivering an impressive 26 mpg; the Stelvio Quadrifoglio managed just 21 mpg, and the ML Coupe was good for just 20 mpg. For more information on the X4 M’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.
Interior, comfort and cargo
The X4 M’s upscale and sporty cabin is made from high-quality materials, its layout is driver-focused and it’s easy to find the right seating position. A host of luxury features are standard, including 14-way power front seats, leather upholstery, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, interior lighting, heated front seats and a panoramic sunroof.
The sloping roofline doesn’t intrude on the rear passenger space as much as you’d expect, and most average-sized passengers will find the back seat very comfortable. Cargo space is more limited here than in the X3 M, but we still managed to fit eight carry-on bags behind the back seat and 18 in total with the rear seats folded down.
Infotainment and connectivity
All X4 M models feature a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with the latest iteration of BMW’s iDrive interface. Navigation is standard, and all models also come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An onboard Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless smartphone charging pad are part of the optional Executive package. Instead of analog gauges, the X4 M and X4 M Competition come standard with a 12.3-inch reconfigurable digital gauge display. Audiophiles will be pleased to know that a Harman/Kardon 16-speaker stereo is standard, so you don’t have to pay extra for the upgrade.
Safety and driver assistance functions
BMW offers its Active Driving Assistant package, which includes basic driver assistance features, as standard, but more advanced technology is optional. For more information on the X4 M’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection as standard
- Standard lane departure warning
- Available adaptive cruise control
Warranty and maintenance coverage
Like all other new BMWs, the X4 M and X4 M Competition come with a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty and a generous 3-year/36,000-mile maintenance plan. Mercedes-AMG offers no such maintenance plan, but the Jaguar F-Pace SVR outdoes the BMW with longer warranty periods and up to five years of free maintenance.
Price BMW X4 M
Announced not only the release date of the crossover, but also how much the updated SUV will cost. The minimum price for the BMW X4 M in the basic configuration is 38,000 euros. The cost of the luxuriously equipped versions exceeds 70,000 euros.
