But before we get to the reality, we have to go through some concept cars. It has been announced that they are currently working on a concept version of the car that will be unveiled in and will be the basis for the future production vehicle, which does not yet have a release date.

They are actually basing their potential car on an earlier design and concept model that was made in 2003. The model was actually made in the Chevrolet Super Sport design and could be a good basis for the launch of this version. The previous concept was unveiled at the 2003 North American International Auto Show and was meant to compete with potential cars like the Camaro model, but didn’t come to fruition then. Now we’re back on the same track with this idea and hope that the car will be available for a major auto show next year where we can see the fruits of their labor in person.

When can we expect the Chevrolet Chevelle release date?

Although the prospect of a final Chevrolet Chevelle is just around the corner, the real production version could still be a long way off. That’s OK, at least we have something rather than nothing and it just shows the legitimacy of Chevy finally doing something that will bring one of the more popular brands back on track. The concept could be introduced anytime in , while the finished product will be at least a year or two away from the concept.

The Chevrolet Chevelle rumors so far

The latest rumors say that Chevrolet is preparing for a Chevrolet Chevelle concept version that will be released for the Detroit Auto Show. But they haven’t said which year and all we have is that they are planning something, the question is what. All this excitement can’t end with anything, which means something might come out of all the things that are happening right now. According to the latest sources, the car that is planned to be previewed will be a “retro-style compact car” and they also plan to make it smaller than a mid-size sedan. Actually, they haven’t clarified anything about the car at all and we are still stumped, but hopefully something can still come out of it.

Chevrolet recently registered the Chevelle nameplate as a trademark

In 2013, Chevrolet actually filed a trademark application related to the Chevelle name. As it later turned out, the trademark was in the goods and services category of “exterior badges for vehicles.” Moreover, based on the latest rules that do not allow companies to trademark without providing solid evidence. It only makes us further believe that Chevy takes its trademark seriously and is not doing it for nothing. This application, as we see, is the first step Chevy is taking to bring back the Chevelle.

Possible design of the Chevrolet Chevelle

From our perspective, there are few things that could make it to the version of the Chevrolet Chevelle concept car. First, the same Zeta Lite platform that the Camaro uses and that Chevy shares with Holden could be used here. The architecture behind this car isn’t as modern as you’d expect, but it’s indeed much more refined than the Mustang.

There are also some predictions that say we could get a 400-horsepower LS2 6.0-liter V8 engine under the hood. It will likely be paired with a six-speed manual transmission that will provide the required power rating for the car.

The idea is not only to copy everything the old Chevelle model was known for, but they also plan to mix a dramatic design with the true performance of the car that should give us the necessary formula of the future. What we will probably get is an advanced chassis with a fuel-efficient powertrain and a contemporary design.

Some history behind the Chevrolet Chevelle automobiles

The old Chevrolet Chevelle was first produced as a mid-size car in 1964. It was produced throughout the rest of the 60s and 70s, when it was discontinued in 1978. Nevertheless, it left a legacy large enough that it is still appreciated today and is considered one of GM’s most successful products.

A total of 76,800 Chevelle vehicles were sold during the 1964 model year. It was produced in two engine options, the 283 and 327 cubic inches, with output ranging from 195 to 300 horsepower based on the engine and configuration. It was in mid-1965 that Chevelle released a groundbreaking option with the l79 350 hp 327 V8, also known as the RPO Z-16. Chevelle also introduced the 65 Chevelle Z-16 with a L37396 big block V8 that produced 375 hp at 5600 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 3600 rpm.

In 1973 and 1977, the Chevelle was redesigned and actually grew in size. The car lost its sporty styling and the “Colonnade Hardtop” models replaced the pillarless hardtop versions, with the convertible models being dropped all together. In 1973, they started offering luxury Laguna series, followed by a Malibu and then Deluxe models. The SS package was completely replaced by a sporty Laguna S-3 coupe in 1976. It also marked the downward path and the way to phase out the Chevelle cars.

Possible competing cars

After becoming a production car, the Chevrolet Chevelle concept will have to face certain rival cars. But what are the cars, since the Chevelle has been out of the race for so long, people can hardly base this car on any of the modern vehicles. But based on the performance offered and the results this car could have, we see the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 as the best replacement and competitor vehicles for the Chevelle and the car it wants to be.
