If you’re looking for respectable passenger space, excellent crash-test scores, plenty of standard equipment for the money, and plenty of storage, the new Chevrolet Trax is worth considering. Plus, the Suburban has plenty of technology, is easier to pack into a small space, is easy to drive, and is inexpensive.

Quite a few automakers have been surprised in an era of lower gas prices and growing interest in the subcompact crossover segment. Aside from its compactness, the new model also offers many other likeable features. The interior is easy to get into and once inside you will notice that high-quality materials are used on most surfaces. The seats are comfortable and supportive to begin with, making long-distance journeys comfortable and memorable.

For general use, however, the Trax isn’t as exciting as your first encounter with it at your local dealership would suggest. Acceleration is lackluster and the four-cylinder engine is only suitable for city driving. Steering and handling are subpar, while ride quality can be significantly choppy on rough roads in general.

Therefore, before writing, it is advisable to check what the competition offers. Rivals include the Mazda CX-3, Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade. Our favourite in this segment happens to be the CX-5 – it is a complex balance between storage space and seating comfort, best driving dynamics and incredible all-road capability.

The new Chevrolet Trax subcompact five-passenger crossover will be offered in LTZ, LT and LS trim levels, with the option to specify between a FWD and AWD system.

Standard accessories and features on the Trax LS include a folding front passenger seat, full power accessories, a steering wheel with telescoping and tilt functions, 16-inch steel wheels, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, an auxiliary audio jack, a seven-inch touchscreen display, smartphone app connectivity, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, automatic headlights, a six-speaker sound system, a rear cargo cover, a USB port, air conditioning, and GM’s OnStar telematics.

Upgrading to the Trax LT gets you a 110V power outlet, remote engine start, rear privacy glass, satellite and HD radio, heated outside mirrors, cruise control, alloy wheels, and a passenger compartment.

The top-of-the-line Trax LTZ adds a 7-speaker Bose audio system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear parking sensors, 18-inch alloy wheels, premium leatherette vinyl upholstery, a six-way power driver’s seat and heated front seats.

Options offered include a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, full leather upholstery, a six-way power driver’s seat, rear parking sensors, a sunroof and three-zone automatic climate control. Packages, color palettes and standalone options should be expected on the release date.

Chevrolet Trax Engine Specs and Fuel Economy

Motivating the Chevrolet Trax is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The system has sole responsibility for sending the power generated – 138 horsepower and 148 lbs. ft. of torque to either FWD or AWD.

Zipping from 0 to 100 km/h takes less than 10.0 seconds – a lackluster acceleration compared to what other small crossovers in its class offer.

Coming to fuel economy, according to the EPA, we should look forward to fuel economy ratings of around 24/31/27 mpg in the city/highway/combined with an AWD and 26/34/29 mpg with the FWD.
