Dodge Durango 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.

There has been a lot of talk about the Dodge Durango in recent months, and most reports point to a redesign in the near future. Once an SUV, the Durango is now a crossover and shares most of its features with the Grand Cherokee . Two models ride on the same platform and feature the same mechanics and engines.

However, the function may change slightly. In these two decades of production, we have seen three generations. As mentioned, the original model was a classic body-on-frame SUV and it looks like the fourth generation could return to its roots.

There are several reasons to believe in such a scenario, especially considering how the Grand Cherokee is likely to perform. In any case, you can count on the new generation of Durango in the near future, definitely in a year or two.

Redesign

Restyling always brings a lot of changes. That’s why they are also called restyling. Nevertheless, significant changes in terms of the characteristics of the base design are not such a common phenomenon nowadays. This is the main reason why the Dodge Durango attracts so much attention. As you probably know, the original Durango, which was in production between 1997 and 2003, was a true body-on-frame SUV based on the famous Dakota truck . After the discontinuation of Dakota, the Durango became a crossover. After the revival of the mid-size truck segment, rumors began to appear about the comeback of Dakota, as well as about the new Dodge Durango.

There is another reason why this scenario makes perfect sense. As you know, the current model has a lot in common with the Grand Cherokee. However, the Jeep flagship will soon adopt Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform, and it’s really hard to imagine such a crossover being under Dodge badge, especially considering that the Durango is much larger and adapting the new platform would incur additional costs. On the other hand, there is a body-on-frame platform just waiting to find its place under the new Dodge Durango.

platform

The Dodge Durango is about to ride on a body-on-frame platform, and FCA already has such an architecture. As you probably know, the famous Jeep Wrangler was recently redesigned. It received an entirely new platform with significant weight savings and many other improvements. A Wrangler-based pickup truck is also coming next year, which leads us to the conclusion that the new Dakota will use the same platform as the new Durango.

With such a design approach, the new generation would definitely have more chances of commercial success. The crossover segment is currently crowded and Durango definitely doesn’t have much of a chance. On the other hand, many drivers are waiting for a capable SUV that can perform well both off-road and on-road. Compared to the Wrangler and the upcoming Bronco, the Dodge Durango would be larger and far more practical, making it a potential new rival to the super off-road capable Toyota 4Runner.

Styling and interior design

While the mechanical aspect seems to be pretty clear, the visual appearance of the new SUV is a bit of a mystery. Dodge hasn’t introduced a new model in years and the current styling philosophy definitely looks outdated, so we’re betting on a completely new design language. Still, it’s hard to predict what it will look like at this point. Many experts believe that the new Dakota will take a lot of inspiration from the redesigned Ram 1500. Without a doubt, Durango would completely follow this styling approach, which leads us to conclude that it won’t be surprised to have a very similar face to one that characterizes the legendary truck.

Inside, things remain similar to the current crossover, at least in terms of the basic layout. The Dodge Durango will be a three-row crossover with a capacity for seven passengers. On the other hand, the design of the dashboard is a mystery. Again, we can expect a lot of influence from both the new Ram 1500 and the new Wrangler, and both models feature very upscale and well-equipped cabins.

Dodge Durango Engine

The current model shares the powertrain with the Grand Cherokee. We expect similar units in the future as well. Base models will most likely continue with a familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, although additional power would be welcome.

Optional engines would likely have eight cylinders, which brings us to a familiar 5.7-liter engine that currently powers the R/T version and delivers around 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.

We also expect a larger 6.4-liter engine. This engine is good for about 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

Finally, expect a diesel version as well. It will be a familiar 3.0-liter unit that delivers around 260 horses and 440 lb-ft of torque.
