Fiat 124 Spider Abarth 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
There is a definitive confirmation that the Fiat 124 Spider Abarth model will make a comeback in . This was a premise about the vehicle that dominated in the 60s and the news of its revival began in 2014. But it was not until the Geneva Motor Show at the latest that these rumors were put to rest as confirmation of the model arriving sometime in 2022 and its possible release date were confirmed.
Fiat 124 Spider
Fiat finally came clean and announced that it would build a roadster car using underpinnings borrowed from the Mazda MX-5 . It was more than clear that the Fiat 124 Spider was the vehicle in question. Fans were even more excited when they heard that it was the performance-oriented Abarth model. The standard roadster was actually unveiled at the Los Angeles show, but confirmation of the Abarth model is the news we were hoping for.
Made with the technology of the 500 Abarth model, the new model features a sporty kit, a revised interior and a much more powerful version of the engine than the standard models. There are also some fancy additions that will link this model and its Abarth heritage to the 124 Rally Limited Edition model.
Since Mazda announced that they are not planning a high-performance version of their Miata model and for some reason decided not to do so, the Fiat 124 Spider Abarth can be a pretty important model for the segment. The vehicle will be released in Europe first and will grace the showrooms there, while we are still waiting for the European release date and confirmation for North America. Until then, read the review and confirmed dates.
Design
The Fiat 124 Spider Abarth features an exterior design that is actually based on the base roadster, only enhanced by building it up and adding some advanced exterior elements. The front end has a honeycomb grille similar to that of the original model, but includes air vents with black plastic surrounds. There is also a revised lower grille with integrated fog lights and a sportier apron with a red insert. The hood is matte black and features an Abarth anti-glare kit, in this case the Fiat logo is replaced by a Scorpion emblem.
The side of the car has some black painted skirts. The model also uses lightweight 17-inch multi-spoke wheels with red brake calipers and some Scorpion emblems on the front fenders of the car. The side profile of the car also lets us notice that the car sits lower than usual due to the revised suspension system. The back also gets a new sportier piece with vents towards the rear wheels. It combines a more aggressive diffuser with a quad exhaust layout and just like the hood, the boot lid is also painted matte black. This is actually a nod to the original 124 Spider vehicle.
Interior
The changes to the inside of the Fiat 124 Spider Abarth are actually much more subtle compared to the outside. The interior is based on the 124 Spider model but also adds elements from the MX-5 Miata. However, this Fiat interior retains the high-quality elements that make the difference between these two models, as it uses the revised door panels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an additional layer of leather on the lower dashboard.
Along with all these features, the Abarth has also received some new bespoke features. The upgrades are basically performance-oriented and include sportier seats with improved grip, an aluminium pedal, a small diameter steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock stripe and a red background for the tachometer. The lower part of the dashboard is made of Alcantara leather.
The standard equipment of the car includes a stereo with four speakers, a climate control system, cruise control, an MP3 player and a USB port, as well as adjustable and electrically folding exterior mirrors. The optional parts of the equipment are an infotainment system with a 7-inch color display, an intuitive button on the central unit, a digital DAB tuner, a satellite navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and a rear view camera.
