Ford Bronco Hybrid 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
Former Ford President and CEO Jim Hackett confirmed during the company’s annual shareholder meeting in 2019 that the Blue Oval would build a Ford Bronco Hybrid. However, few details are available as neither the board nor the company have announced technical specifications or the release date.
Ford Bronco Hybrid
While many Bronco prospects await the release of a Bronco hybrid with higher gas mileage, Ford could be working on something more eco-friendly and exciting to drive. The company’s CEO and President Jim Farley Jr. has suggested that the company could launch a Bronco EV after the Bronco hybrid.
Owner’s manual confirms the future Ford Bronco Hybrid
Ford released its owner’s manual before it began selling the gas-powered Bronco two- and four-door midsize SUVs. The 550-page document reaffirmed that the company has a Bronco hybrid planned for a commercial launch. There are two citations of the hybrid variant, first in the Vehicle Storage section and again in the Scheduled Maintenance section.
The first section is about leaving the Bronco Hybrid unused for a period of more than 30 days. In such a case, owners should keep the traction battery’s state of charge (SoC) at around 50% and it is recommended to disconnect the auxiliary battery as this would reduce the load on the traction battery.
Ford states that the driver can control the state of charge (SoC) and suggests that the Bronco Hybrid is a plug-in electric vehicle (PHEV) variant. The second section of the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor system provides an oil change alert at appropriate intervals, which in the case of the Bronco Hybrid can exceed 10,000 miles.
About the Ford Bronco Hybrid
The electronic media has been speculating for over a year now about what will go under the hood of the hybrid SUV. The reasonable, and dare we say logical, expectation for the Ford Bronco Hybrid (which shares its ladder frame construction with the Ranger pickup ) is to share electrical hardware with the F-150 and Explorer hybrids .
A 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with an electric motor and a 10-speed modular transmission was to go under the Ford Bronco Hybrid. Combined with a 47-horsepower electric motor from the F-150, the Ford Bronco Hybrid was expected to produce a healthy system output of 450 horsepower.
Now that the owner’s manual points to a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the electrified Bronco could allow customers to use EV mode to drive a full day with zero emissions. Ford could offer the Bronco Plug-in Hybrid with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine and the 35-kW motor from the F-150 Powerboost full hybrid . Total system output could be in the neighborhood of 350 horsepower, and the battery pack can enable a practical range of around 40 miles. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is currently America’s best-selling PHEV, so Ford knows there’s great potential for a hardcore mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV.
Solar roof option
The Ford Bronco Hybrid can come with a solar roof that reduces its carbon footprint even in the most remote locations. Ford is testing a Bronco prototype with a raised roof, but it covers the section with camouflage. According to a report from the Ford Authority, the company is likely hiding a solar roof under the covers.
Initially, solar panels in cars did not have high-end capabilities and could only perform basic functions such as powering peripherals like the air conditioning. However, in recent years they have improved and with further advancements can significantly increase the car ‘s range when parked in sunlight.
The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid ‘s solar panels have an output of 204 kW and can improve fuel efficiency by about 7%. Hyundai says that with 5.8 hours of charging time per day, travel distance can be increased by 1,300 km or 808 miles per year.
About the Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid
Reports suggest that the Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid will use the powertrain from the Ford Escape Hybrid, which makes sense considering the “softer” Bronco sits on the Escape ‘s monocoque platform . This is a 200-horsepower system that includes the 2.5-liter iVCT Atkinson-cycle gas engine mated to an eCVT. Ford offers the Escape as a hybrid (with all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive) and also as a plug-in hybrid (front-wheel drive only).
When Motor Authority reviewed the Bronco Sport, they managed a fuel economy of 23 mpg in mixed suburban driving, almost the same level as the EPA rating (21 mpg city/26 mpg highway/23 mpg combined). Motor Authority wrote that the Escape’s hybrid powertrain would significantly improve efficiency in the Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid. For reference, the Escape Hybrid’s EPA-estimated fuel economy is 44 mpg city/37 mpg highway/41 mpg combined in front-wheel drive and 43 mpg city/37 mpg highway/40 mpg combined.
The Ford Bronco Hybrid and Bronco Sport Hybrid could debut in for the model year. Entrants include the Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV and a Land Rover Defender PHEV. The Bronco twins are part of the Blue Oval’s strategy to offer hybrid-electric variants for high-volume models such as the Bronco, Explorer and F-150. The company is currently in the process of launching the Bronco Raptor.
Bronco Production & Sales
The Bronco is in limited production and some dealers are offering them with huge markups to capitalize on their popularity. Some dealers are charging a markup of just under $20,000 for the Ford Bronco Hybrid. Some others are offering them in six-figure numbers like $100,000 and even $199,999! That’s more than a fully loaded Land Rover Defender , which starts at $80,500 MSRP (two-door). Bronco dealer markups will go down as supply increases nationwide.
