Ford Expedition MAX 2025: Minor changes and new wheels.
The current generation of Ford’s largest SUV in the range has been around for a few years, and given that most experts still consider it one of the best models in the class, it’s no surprise that the Ford Expedition MAX will come without any major changes…
ExpeditionMAX
The Blue Oval company believes that the current model is still fresh enough to compete with other models in the segment, including the all-new Suburban, so the biggest news for next year is new wheel designs on all trim levels. Other than that, things have stayed the same.
This means you can count on one of the most spacious vehicles in the world. This SUV’s strongest point is the amount of passenger space, which still seems unprecedented considering that even the third row offers more than 40 inches of legroom. The Expedition MAX is also quite capable when it comes to towing and hauling, while its twin-turbo V6 engine offers better fuel economy compared to most rivals that still use N/A V8 units.
Redesign
As mentioned, there are no major changes for the Ford Expedition MAX. The biggest new feature is the addition of new wheel designs across all trim levels. Other than that, things have stayed the same. This refers to both the styling and the mechanicals. This is a stretched version of the standard Expedition and measures a pretty impressive 131.6 inches in wheelbase and nearly 222 inches in overall length. As you might assume, this SUV isn’t particularly maneuverable, and the biggest advantages of this size are certainly inside.
Mechanically, this model is heavily based on the current generation F-150 and uses the same aluminum chassis. This has a very positive effect on efficiency, but also the rigidity is quite high. After all, the maximum towing capacity is up to 9,000 pounds.
Inner
Given the size of the model, it’s no wonder that the space inside is pretty impressive. This SUV offers more than 40 inches of legroom in all three rows of seats, which is something you won’t find in any other vehicle in the industry. Therefore, we can say that it can easily carry eight adult people and provide excellent comfort to all of them. The cargo space also offers pretty respectable numbers. You can expect about 36 cubic feet behind the third row, 79.6 cubic feet behind the second row, and a maximum of 121.5 cubic feet
This SUV isn’t without its flaws, though. Given the model’s starting price, you’d probably expect a more stylish cabin. This one is more truckish, not much different than the one in the F-150. We don’t like that most areas are covered in hard plastics, even in higher trim levels.
Characteristics
There have been no major changes in terms of standard and available features, so the Ford Expedition MAX comes standard with extras like an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, voice recognition, four USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. In addition, you get two USB ports in the third row, wireless device charging, a household-style power outlet, navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system, HD radio, and a 12-speaker audio system.
When it comes to safety, all models come standard with a rearview camera, automatic high beam headlights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection and forward automatic emergency braking. In addition, you get more advanced systems like rain-sensing wipers, front parking sensors, adaptive stop-and-go cruise control, a surround-view parking camera system and automatic parking assist.
Motor
This is definitely one of the strengths of the Ford Expedition MAX. It continues with a familiar 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, available in two power variants of 375 or 400 horsepower. The torque is even more impressive and that is the main reason why the driving dynamics are so good. We already mentioned that the maximum towing capacity is up to 9,000 pounds. Power is transmitted through a 10-speed automatic transmission that shifts smoothly and precisely.
Not only is the engine powerful, but it also offers pretty good mpg ratings for the class. You can count on about 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. That’s pretty good for this segment. 4WD models are a bit thirstier.
Pricing
In terms of price, we didn’t see any major changes from last year’s model, so base versions go around €55,000 (Euros). On the other hand, top-of-the-range models can easily cost up to €80,000 (Euros). So you can consider some premium SUVs for its money, including the corporal Lincoln Navigator , which starts at around €77,000 (Euros).
