Blue Oval promises more MPG

The upcoming Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid is a powerful pickup truck. A 3.5-liter V6 that works with a hybrid system is called “PowerBoost.” It’s a power unit that combines a V6 twin-turbo engine with a hybrid setup. According to the Blue Oval, the goal is improved fuel efficiency. And while initial reports suggested 24 mpg combined, we can confirm slightly better numbers.

The new model offers 26 mpg combined, which is great for a pickup truck. The F-150 PowerBoost will develop up to 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque, which is a lot. For comparison, the current Raptor delivers 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.

Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid – Towing Capacity

We also said that towing capacity will be improved as well. The Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid now offers a towing capacity of up to 12,700 pounds. Interestingly, the F-150 borrows hybrid technology from the Explorer SUV. The SUV variant can tow “only” 5,000. Some reports suggested around 13,200 pounds, but towing numbers will easily exceed that. Don’t consider it a disappointment, because this is still more than good towing capability.

Other specifications

The all-new Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid uses the brand’s MHT powertrain. It’s a modular hybrid technology with a 35kW electric motor. The motor features regenerative braking and helps charge a 1.5kWh battery pack. The battery is located under the pickup truck, so it doesn’t affect interior space or cargo space. This model comes with the Pro Power Onboard Generator. The generator delivers 2.4 kilowatts of exportable power, which is great.

In addition, a power of 7.2 kilowatts is optional. Thanks to this, you can use the new F-150 truck to power your tools and much more. The F-150 model offers many non-hybrid powertrain options. You can choose between a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8 engine and a 3.5-liter EcoBoost variant.
