Confirmed by the latest spy photos, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is on the way. It is a more powerful version of the GT350 muscle car that was introduced in 2015. However, this model features a turbocharged engine under the hood.

The news about this car spread quickly and since there is no officially confirmed release date yet, the pictures are enough to convince us. The test mule was spotted doing laps and the spy photos clearly show a revised version of the GT350 model. It is rumored that the new Mustang Shelby GT500 will be a limited edition model and that the engine will increase the power to 700 hp.
The original sixth generation Ford Mustang Shelby car was released back in 2013. The car was revamped by adding a new design language both outside and inside. A new platform was added which also included an independent rear suspension and the lineup also offered a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. It was also the first Mustang to make it to the European market. Later, the GT350 version was released in 2015.
With the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 they offer an even more powerful version of their sixth generation car. There are rumors that we could see the car next year at the Detroit Auto Show and that this way it could introduce us to the car and show us some more reliable images of it.
When will the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 be released?
Currently, there is no confirmation when the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will officially appear. But based on how it looks so far as a test mule, we predict that mid- is the best time for the car to come out. The release date could be set if the car is officially unveiled at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, as has been rumored.
Price class
The upcoming Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be the most expensive version of the sixth generation models for this vehicle, so we can expect a big price increase for the model with a car starting at €70,000 (Euro). The expected MSRP price will be released after the unveiling.
Exterior redesign
As for the design of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, we will be getting a more aggressive version of the GT350 muscle car. It will borrow many panels from the GT350, but will ultimately offer some of its own. Some of the differences that make this version far more aggressive and unique are the larger fixed wings on the trunk lid. Also, the front bumper will get a massive splitter compared to the base version.
The front fascia will also see some changes, one of which is the larger bumper intakes and a revised main grille which is useful for letting more air into the engine and cooling it for better performance. There are no spy photos for the interior of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, but we have many predictions about the interior of the model. Much of the interior will resemble the layout of the GT350 and the model will ultimately be a recognizable Mustang car. We can expect a similar dashboard, door panels and center console, but there will also be some unique features. These are the steering wheel, instrument cluster and an updated infotainment screen.
You’ll probably be able to spot some GT500 badges throughout the interior. New upholstery will be added with contrast stitching and sport seats as well. Since the GT500 isn’t a track-focused vehicle like the GT350, we can expect some comfort features here that are missing from the GT350. This means air conditioning, rear seats, a sound system and a rearview camera.
Engine specifications
There will be some radical changes for the engine of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The model will likely drop the twin-turbocharged engine and replace it with the supercharged V-8 engine, which will be a first for the brand. It is not yet known which version of the V-8 engine they will use, but there is a great potential that a 5.0-liter Coyote or even a brand new engine choice will be used. Current estimates for the car’s power range from 700 hp to 800 hp.
0-62 mph per hour acceleration specifications
Since the previous incarnation of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 had a 0-62 mph performance of 2.8 seconds, this one will likely lose a few tenths of a second based on the extended numbers offered by the version. The top speed will also go well beyond the 202 mph of the original version.
Fuel consumption values
Fuel economy rats for the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be given when the engine is confirmed, but we don’t expect them to get too into it, and we see that the previous version’s EPA rating of 15 MPG City Drive and 24 MPG Highway is a good indicator of what we can expect from the latest version of the car.

In terms of dimensions, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 maintains the specifications of the current models. The dimensions have not changed for the GT350 model and will now also be changed for the GT500, so it is expected to have a full length of 188.2 inches and a wheelbase of 107.1 inches, with a width and height of 73.9 inches and 54.8 inches.
