Genesis G70 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
Recently, a new model was spotted doing roundups, and it’s the Genesis G70. The test mule wears heavy camouflage, but it’s more than recognizable which car it is. The Korean automaker is looking to expand its newest brand, and to do so, it’s introducing another luxury sedan. This new model is intended to compete in the premium compact market, where there will be plenty of competitors.
Genesis G70 sedan
The Genesis brand was originally launched in 2015 and is part of Hyundai’s luxury and premium offering. The division was created from the Hyundai Genesis model, the brand’s full-size sedan model, which initially became Genesis G80 . After the car was successful, a new model was introduced based on the facelifted Equus model called G90 . The G70 will be Genesis’ third model and it already looks good.
Genesis plans to enter the market in the same way that the Cadillac ATS did. The segment that the vehicles will compete in will be extremely competitive with many well-known and very luxurious brands already established there and competing regularly. BMW , Mercedes and Audi are something Genesis will have to watch out for. The G70 just has so much going for it that a cheaper model could, in some ways, grab the attention of the masses and make it in the market.
There were some hints that the model was set to debut a little earlier, but after the spy photos were released, it’s much clearer that a release date is imminent. The Genesis G70 will arrive in a highly competitive luxury car market. Genesis is taking on the challenge of competing in this segment and plans to release a range of models by with several other models on the schedule.
Update: The launch of the Genesis G70 is an attempt by the Korean company to update its roster. Their plan is to launch an entirely new range of vehicles and models that are scheduled to be launched by the end of . This also means a break from the regular models as Genesis focuses on manufacturing their first SUV. This means that the G70 will be one of the last regular models until the SUV project is completed. What we like to see here again is the seriousness that the designers have taken on this project. The vehicle will be based on the preceding G80 and G90 models and it is more than certain that the vehicle will have outstanding safety features.
Our last review focused mainly on the latest information about the Genesis G70. But now the model has taken off the blinds and everything is visible and mostly familiar by now. Here are some updates that might interest you.
When will the release date of the G70 be?
The Genesis G70 was supposed to arrive sooner. But it seems that we will get it in Europe for the model year. The car’s global debut will take place in South Korea this year. The North American release will follow immediately afterward. The car is being prepared and will mark the start of sales. The Detroit Auto Show will be the official presentation of the car, when we will also learn more about the exact release date. We are actually not confident that the car will come sooner than it is rumored to be. The fact is that the shape of how the prototype looks now does not really allow us to make a quick turnaround. So, do not expect the car to miraculously come out sooner, as current estimates are aligned with its exact release.
Update: As previously reported, the Genesis G70 will make its first appearance in its homeland in . The vehicle will be released in Korea any day now and people there can buy it immediately. In Europe, people will have to be patient. The model is slated for a release and cannot be expected before March. Another update says that the vehicle will be offered in two standard engine offerings that will be made available to the US audience. However, there is also a diesel version that will make its debut in Korea but will not be offered to fans in America.
How much does the new Genesis G70 cost?
The price of the upcoming Genesis G70 is still a mystery, but we can hope to see it soon. Based on the competition and the segment the car is in, we can expect a value between €35,000 (Euros). The base MSRP rate will be announced soon, possibly after its official unveiling in Detroit. The price is also something that gives the Genesis G70 an edge over the competition. The most luxurious cars in this segment are much more expensive than this one, so they plan to attract the attention of a regular buyer who can’t afford a Mercedes but wants a car with features of one. All in all, this is quite a reasonable price for the segment.
Exterior design
With the newly announced Genesis G70, we see an exterior style that is unique to all other Hyundai products. This version will combine both elements from the G90 and G80 to create something that may just establish the Genesis brand as a standalone concept. There will still be a few parts in common with the Hyundai brand and these are the massive front grille with horizontal slats, a pronounced beltline, a muscular hood and a sleek roofline.
The unique parts of the design are already visible under all the heavy camouflage the car wears. We can see the slimmer headlights and added vertical intakes for the bumper. The taillights are thinner and extend the tailgate a bit. There are new LED patterns and vertical bars in the middle. The roof is taken from the G80 model but has a shorter trunk lid and a spoiler that gives it more aggressive styling.
The roofline is still hidden but can be recognized despite having all the camouflage on it. Basically, it will have the same design as the G90, which is a sportier and boxier version of the car. Their goal is to attract the public since they offer us a luxurious setup but try to offer a sportier alternative to the vehicles already offered in the segment. This idea could work and could be that many fans will be attracted by this type of characteristic that the future Genesis G70 could have. The prospect looks good and we just have to wait and see what fans will think about it.
Update: With the cover off the Genesis G70, we’ll have a much clearer picture of what the car will look like. We were mostly right with our first pass, and it’s true that the vehicle will borrow heavily from its bigger brothers, the G80 and G90. The grille is basically a shrunken version carried over from those cars, with the only difference being that the G70 features a honeycomb pattern and no horizontal slopes.
The headlights have more squared edges and the entire front end of the car looks much angrier, as opposed to a sleek styling of the G80 models. Other differences include the vertically arranged side vents, which are positioned much higher on the bumper on this model. Updating about the profile says that this model is sportier, not really sportier, than its larger Genesis models.
Interior
The interior of the Genesis G70 is still being kept under wraps. We can safely say that the new model will borrow some elements from the larger G80, as that’s the most obvious thing they could do. This means that the G70 won’t be as spacious or luxurious as the G80, but it will add many elements that allow for great comfort. Expect lots of leather and Alcantara with contrast stitching and a real wood grain finish.
We expect there to be some technology improvements as well, with a larger touchscreen in the center stack leading the way. Added to that will be new navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and various other modern connectivity features you’ll find in other premium vehicles these days. You may also see some standard features, with a digital instrument cluster, plenty of storage compartments, and heated and power-adjustable seats. Other standard additions include devices that improve connectivity, such as auxiliary USB jacks and Bluetooth capabilities. HD Radio and SiriusXM will be standard, though, and you won’t have to pay extra to get them.
One of the parts that makes the Genesis G70 superior compared to the competition is the interior spaciousness. The legroom and the seat space will be especially inviting for the passengers in the back. People will enjoy plenty of space and generally feel much better than in your standard car. You can really feel the luxury and comfort while you are there. This could also be one of the advantages that the G70 could offer to outperform its much more luxurious rival cars in the segment.
Update: The interior of the Genesis G70 looks quite different from the G80 and G90. We came to the conclusion that they are just going to transfer the parts and make their job easier. But they did something very unlikely and decided to make the interior more unique. The dashboard, for example, is much sleeker and simpler. It has better visibility up front and gives the passenger a sporty feeling while driving inside. The center console is also positioned higher and the center stack is driver-oriented. The infotainment display is located right above the dashboard and doesn’t affect the appearance that much.
Drivetrain Option
There’s no official confirmation yet, but it seems the Genesis G70 will offer two engine options. The first option could be the 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine carried over from the G90 model, making 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. This version will be used on the top-range models of the G70, while a more down-to-earth option is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine seen in the Hyundai Sonata, potentially reaching 245 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque for that model.
There are also talks of a possible plug-in version that would also be based on the Sonata engine. This possible setup could mean using the current Sonata’s 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that makes 154 horsepower and 140 lb-ft and combining it with an electric motor that can produce 67 horses and 51 pound-feet. This means we could be looking at a total output of around 202 horses for this version of the hybrid powertrain, and it looks great. To top it all off, the model will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that will allow for both better shifting and improve the car’s fuel economy.
Update: With the two available options already mentioned for the Genesis G70, there is an additional third. The recent update also includes a diesel version offered for the engine setup. They have opted for the 2.2-liter four-pot that can generate 199 horsepower and 325 pound-feet. Unfortunately, this engine version will only be released for the domestic market and we probably won’t see it in the Europe. But other markets could still offer this engine.
If you like the updates to the Genesis G70, you’ll probably want to read our first review of this model. You can find it below and when you read it, you’ll know exactly what’s happening with this car.
0-100 mpg Technical data and possible top speed
The acceleration specs of the Genesis G70 are not yet available as the car has not been tested with the mentioned powertrains. However, for it to be competitive and deliver the required performance compared to the rivals, a 0-60 mpg performance of around 6 seconds and even less is required. The top speed is yet to be determined based on the given engine that will be used.
Fuel consumption values
If the Genesis G70 comes with a peak-performance engine from the G90 model as predicted, the EPA ratings may remain the same as for that particular model. Expect the same fuel economy with 17 mpg city, 24 highway and 20 combined ratings. This keeps the vehicle on a stable track to compete with the other models in the segment. They all make the same or similar fuel economy rates so the G70 is a perfect fit. If they manage to add a high-performance plug-in version, it would mean a lot of good news for the brand as it puts both the fuel economy element and performance on the G70’s side. We can only wait and see what they do with this one.
Dimensions
The Genesis G70 is the third sedan to come out of production, and it will be the smallest and shortest vehicle yet. The luxury line is putting all of its products to compete in the premium segment, and they are slanting this model under the G90 and G80 models. The dimensions are not yet available, but you can just imagine it being shorter and smaller on all sides than its bigger brothers. The official stats will be released at the unveiling in Detroit.
Safety equipment
The upcoming Genesis G70 will have an updated lineup of safety equipment that is enough to keep people safe inside. Reviews will be made when the car is released, but for now we know the model will be offered with the same technology seen in the larger Genesis models. Expect equipment like forward collision warnings with automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera system, a forward cornering camera, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warnings and lane keeping assist, driver alert, adaptive headlights with automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control and nine airbags to boot.
Competing models
The upcoming Genesis G70 will land in a very competitive segment. The Genesis cars are already as exclusive as they come, but the designers know what to expect. The level of expertise for the cars in this market has to be perfect to make it. That’s why the most popular models here are the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes Benz C-Class, which are already and will be the leading brands along with the Cadillac ATS, which has also been very well updated recently.
The only possible solution for the G70 is to be as best a car as possible and try to get by with its styling, efficiency and lower price compared to the others. The established vehicles will always hold the top spot in the luxury segment but Genesis will try to make a difference with their latest product. We are very confident to see how this car could compete in the given segment.
