Appearance
Visually, the new GMC Sierra 2500HD will not change significantly. Instead, the manufacturer will make minor visual cosmetic improvements. First of all, Sierra already looks like a premium truck with a modern design and a familiar appearance. The front fascia wears a decorated grille and more prominent scoops. In addition, this model has C-shaped LED headlights and updated daytime running lights.
No matter which trim level you choose, Sierra 2500HD looks premium. However, the range-topping Denali trim level is something else. It’s a model that offers additional chrome accents, more stylish and larger wheels, and various high-gloss black elements. The GMC Sierra 2500HD also offers wider bumpers and possibly a brand new exterior color or two.
Interior receives drastic improvements
As we said, rivals like the Ford F-250 or Ram 2500 are more capable models. However, the GMC Sierra 2500HD definitely has a more premium cabin. This model offers more luxury, and each trim level is so unique and modern. Changes inside are more dramatic. The base model comes with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a premium Bose audio system, and built-in navigation.
Upper trim levels come with leather upholstery, a rear-seat entertainment system, and the latest driver assistance aids. A new infotainment system is also in the works. However, GM’s latest hands-free Super Cruise system should be available. If that really happens, it’s the most significant upgrade.

Under the hood, the GMC Sierra 2500HD again offers the same 6.6-liter V8 engine. This gasoline unit is standard and produces 400 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. The manufacturer also offers a six-speed automatic transmission and the standard rear-wheel drive setup. On the other hand, the optional 6.6-liter V8 Duramax is a more popular option.
It is a turbodiesel engine that produces 445 horsepower and an astonishing 910 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, a diesel engine could gain more torque. Unlike the gasoline engine, the diesel powertrain has an impressive 10-speed automatic transmission. The Sierra 2500HD can tow around 18,500 pounds on gasoline and up to 35,000 pounds with the diesel engine.
