Hyundai Kona EV 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
When the original Kona arrived a few years ago, everyone loved its styling, quality and affordable price. However, Hyundai decided to take everything to the next level and swap the petrol engine for batteries and electric motors.
EV
As a result, we have one of the most attractive electric crossovers on the market. No competitor simply offers such an impressive price-performance ratio. This version was introduced last year and the company has a good reason not to offer any special changes for the Hyundai Kona EV model.
This means you can count on a vehicle that offers solid performance, more than adequate range and a fairly long list of standard features. At the same time, the model looks just as good as the standard version, so it will undoubtedly be one of the most attractive EV models on the market again. We expect it sometime at the end of the year.
Redesign of the Hyundai Kona EV
The Hyundai Kona EV will not receive any special changes for next year. This means that we can count on familiar characteristics, whether it is mechanical or aesthetic. When it comes to mechanics, this model has a lot in common with the standard petrol model. Both variants are built on the same platform and you can find many of the same parts, especially when it comes to the chassis and suspension.
The same goes for the styling. Compared to the standard petrol engine, there are some differences, especially regarding the grille and wheels. These parts emphasize the EV character of the model. On the other hand, the overall look is practically the same as the standard model. You can count on a very appealing crossover, which is certainly one of the best looking models in the class.
Inner
As mentioned, the Hyundai Kona EV will not feature any special changes for next year. That said, you can count on a familiar cabin layout that has both pros and cons. When it comes to good things, we like the overall look of the cabin. It’s attractive and comes with pretty decent materials, especially considering that this is not only a small crossover, but also an electric one, and such vehicles usually have a cheap interior. A long list of standard equipment makes everything look even more opulent.
On the other hand, we don’t like the interior. While the front seats are comfortable and spacious, the second row is also tight for this segment. The same goes for the cargo space, which offers below-average numbers. You can count on 19.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 45.8 cubic feet of total cargo space.
Characteristics
The list of standard features won’t change next year, so you can count on familiar equipment on base models. Tech features include extras like a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, and HD Radio. On higher trim levels, you also get extras like a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium audio system, and more.
When it comes to safety features, all models come standard with extras like a rearview camera, driver attention monitor, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. That’s quite a long list that can be expanded in higher trim levels. You can also get safety features like pedestrian detection, automatic high beam headlights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and more.
Drivetrain
The Hyundai Kona EV will continue with the same simple but peppy powertrain setup. Of course, it’s a single electric motor that delivers a respectable 201 horsepower. With that kind of power, you can count on pretty strong acceleration and overall performance. Power is delivered pretty smoothly through a single-speed transmission, and we also like the fact that economy is pretty impressive. It’s around 132 MPGe in the city and 108 MPGe on the highway.
The electric motor comes paired with a 64 kWh battery, which provides a respectable range of 258 miles. This battery takes 9.5 hours to fully charge, but you can also use a fast DC device to charge 80 percent of the battery in just 50 minutes.
Release date and price
Since there will be no major changes for next year, the Hyundai Kona EV will be launched in the typical time, probably in December. We also do not expect any major price changes, so the base versions should cost around €38,000 (Euro). Some of the main competitors are Chevrolet Menlo EV , Tesla Model 3 .
