Spy photos reveal smoother lines, especially at the rear. This inspired some fans to believe in the coupe SUV. But the pitch is not that big and Kia is not adding such a vehicle to the lineup. At least not yet. The prototype seems to stand a little higher than its predecessor. With a higher ground clearance, the new Sorento could offer better off-road capabilities. On the other hand, Kia has problems with the fuel consumption of its all-wheel drive system, so this is another area where we could see improvements.

We believe the interior of the upcoming Kia Sorento will see some minor changes. The last time the company updated the cabin, we saw the trim levels mostly reshuffled. Now it’s time for a new look with a smarter dashboard and an improved infotainment system.
Currently, there are five trim levels available. Kia made a stunning entrance with a range of features on the base L model. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. You also get air conditioning, cloth upholstery and the rearview camera. Opting for the LX version adds a blind spot monitor, super fast charging point and 8-way power driver’s seat. The S model expands the range even further with heating for the front seats and air conditioning for the third row. Also, buyers definitely get more safety alerts and options. Top-of-the-range SUVs come with leather seats and upholstery, panoramic sunroof, premium audio, navigation and wireless charging for mobile devices.
Kia Sorento gets a hybrid engine
The Korean company follows modern trends. The carmaker is also becoming a leader in the electric sector. We already have Niro and Soul, subcompact models with fully electric drives. Now it’s up to the bigger siblings to follow the same path. Well, in the mid-size segment there are only two other hybrid SUVs. Ford Explorer recently joined Toyota Highlander . Other companies announced that their models will be available soon. Honda and Kia seem to be the most serious.
Details about the Kia Sorento do not mention whether the SUV will use a four-cylinder or a V6 engine. We would rather say a larger one. A 3.3-liter is already quite powerful and will produce over 300 hp with electric assistance. At the same time, fuel consumption will increase to 25 mpg combined. If engineers choose a four-cylinder for construction, the performance will not be so generous. Nevertheless, fuel consumption will reach high numbers.
Petrol systems and technical data
Under the hood of the base version will still be a 2.4-liter four-pot mill. Engineers tune this to produce 185 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to get you off to a good start. The powertrain is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and delivers 25 mpg. If you opt for all-wheel drive, consumption increases to 23 mpg.
More powerful is a V6 unit. A 3.3-liter displacement is ready to crunch 290 hp. For example, Honda Pilot gets 280 from a 3.5-l unit. Also, Sorento gets 260 lb-ft through an eight-speed automatic transmission. A V6 increases towing capacity from 2,000 to 5,000 pounds.
When will the Kia Sorento Hybrid be available?
The company does not want to confirm whether the hybrid engine will be there for the launch of the Kia Sorento. The SUV will be ready for its premiere in mid-. However, the Korean automaker will only present cosmetic changes. It is even questionable whether the hybrid and PHEV models will be available when sales begin in . In any case, these will appear at some point. The price will probably start at €35,000 (Euro), while the PHEV variant will not be below €40,000 (Euro).
