Lamborghini Countach: Retro style and modern power

A legendary name in supercar history returns in the form of the retro-inspired, limited-edition Lamborghini Countach. While it’s essentially a rebadged Aventador with the heart and soul of a Sián, the Italian automaker has done an incredible job of recreating the original’s iconic design for modern audiences.

The reinvented Wedge lacks the original’s pop-up headlights and massive rear wing that adorned it in its twilight years, but the signature hexagonal wheel arches and scissor doors are both present.

Unlike the old Countach, the new one features a small electric motor powered by a supercapacitor that, along with a mighty mid-mounted V-12 engine, produces a combined output of 802 horsepower. Lamborghini claims this powertrain will help it reach zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 221 km/h. Before anyone sends their Swiss banker a seven-figure wire transfer, all 112 examples of the Lamborghini Countach have already been spoken for.

What’s new ?

Lamborghini is resurrecting the Countach name and likeness for the model year. Although it’s a homologation of the brand’s other hypercars, it’s a surprisingly faithful replica of the original. It will also be sold in very limited quantities, much like the wildly styled Sian.

Engine, transmission and performance

Beneath the Countach’s retro, lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork lies a modern powertrain. Mounted in the middle of the car is an electrically assisted 6.5-liter V-12. A small electric motor draws power from a supercapacitor and combines with the large gasoline engine to produce 802 horsepower. This is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed automated manual transmission. Considering the Countach reportedly weighs 3516 pounds dry, the company’s claims that it goes from zero to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds and hits 124 mph in 8.4 seconds don’t seem far-fetched. Lamborghini also says it has a top speed of 221 mph. Every Countach rides on 20-inch wheels up front and 21-inch wheels in the rear. Thanks to rear-wheel steering as standard, the exotic coupe shouldn’t be too difficult to maneuver even in tight spaces. And if the driver encounters bumps, there is an integrated front axle lift system that protects the car ‘s expensive chin .

Interior, comfort and cargo

While the Countach’s exterior bears an uncanny resemblance to its forebear, today’s version is noticeably more modern inside. The only notable feature for the future is the red and black interior of the version Lamborghini has introduced to the world. Otherwise, its two-seat cockpit resembles what’s seen in other contemporary Lambos. There’s a fully digital instrument cluster, a buttonless steering wheel supported by giant paddle shifters, and a slab of switches and other controls on the center console. While the Countach’s cabin can be customized to suit each customer’s preferences, there’s no way to remedy the lack of storage space.

Infotainment and connectivity

As with other Lamborghinis, the Countach’s infotainment system is a minor detail. The main thing is that it runs through a vertically oriented 8.0-inch touchscreen that allows the user to play music or listen to the radio, access vehicle settings and functions, and adjust countless other settings.

As more information becomes available, we will update this story with more details on:

  • Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
  • Safety and driver assistance functions
  • Warranty and maintenance coverage
