In terms of styling, the LF-Z concept proposes an evolution of the brand’s distinctive design language. It has the recognisable features such as the large front bumper that would normally house a large grille that stretched from the bonnet line to the car’s chin. The LF-Z has the usual sharp Lexus styling in terms of the lighting elements, aero elements and the mix of clean lines and sporty curves in profile that mimic an athletic physique. Its taillight strip across the rear also carries Lexus in 3D lettering.

Technical characteristics

The car is based on the Direct4 electric platform, which includes two electric motors (one per axle). The total length of the prototype is 4880 mm and the height is 1600 mm.The Lexus LF-Z Electrified is powered by an electric drive with 34 kW (536 hp) and 700 Nm of torque. In addition, the electric car received a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 90 kW*h, which is located under the bottom of the body. The novelty can travel 600 km on one battery charge. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds, and the maximum speed is 200 km/h. The electric car received an electronic steer-by-wire steering system, which ensures the absence of a mechanical connection between the steering controller and the wheels.

Inner

While the exterior of the Lexus LF-Z concept appears production-friendly (apart from the wheel size), the cockpit design looks futuristic. Its design is said to be based on a concept called Tazuna, which is Japanese for “reins” and means the reins of the horse. Special attention was given to the driver’s seat, as hinted, which resembles the cockpit of the LF-Z concept, including white upholstery that contrasts with the rest of the cabin. It has a combat-style helmet with multiple screens integrated into a single module that is angled to minimize deviation from the line of sight. It includes an augmented reality head-up display, an instrument cluster and a touchscreen on the passenger side. A notable detail is the use of stop and fast-forward symbols for the brake and accelerator pedals, respectively.

Like any modern electric vehicle concept, the LF-Z Electrified has built-in AI features that can learn the driver’s preferences and behavior. Its voice recognition system can do the same while performing auxiliary tasks such as directions and table reservations. The door handles, which sit flush with the body panels, pop open when a driver or passenger approaches with a key in hand, and additionally feature a digital key to make the vehicle easily accessible to family members and service providers.

While Lexus already has one all-electric vehicle in its lineup, the UX300e , the company plans to launch new dedicated BEVs, as announced by the LF-Z Electrified concept. In total, the luxury brand intends to add at least 10 new or updated electrified models (including BEVs, hybrids and plug-in hybrids) to its lineup by , while also offering drivable sports cars as long as it is feasible.

Price Lexus LF-Z EV

Since the Lexus LF-Z EV is not a concrete vehicle preview but a design language and electrified powertrain, it is difficult to predict general pricing information. However, if Lexus’ first electric car is the size of a bZ4X , we expect it to cost around €45,000 (Euro) in base trim.
