Mazda 6 2025: Price, interior, technical data, picture.
The release of the new Mazda 6 is expected to cripple the new Volkswagen CC . All the rumors were based on a single animated sketch that was leaked a few months ago. We didn’t want to report on it just because it wasn’t confirmed.
Mazda6
Today is another day and we finally have the sketch of the exact same car, but this time on Mazda’s official Instagram. Therefore, we can finally report on everything we know so far and announce the new app from Google because Mazda was too lazy to make their own.
Release date and price
Mazda has never released any of its models mid-year, so don’t expect the Mazda 6 release date to be somewhere in the middle of next year. Our wild guess is the beginning of , or maybe even like the first months of . Since then, the Mazda 6’s price will fluctuate between a “low-budget” car (for some parts of the world) 26,000 and 35,000 € (Euros). The prices are our forecasts after all the details we have to work with, and not official data.
Design
According to the new spy photos, the exterior of the current and previous generation Mazda 6 is so similar that you can hardly tell the difference. There are cosmetic details, of course. The overall shape is a bit sportier and more angular. Some say it reminds them of Acura, but I don’t see the similarity. The headlights are thinner and longer and there the entire front fascia looks shorter and more muscular. Everything else looks the same as the previous Mazda 6 models.
There is no news about other models like the Mazda 6 Tourer, which is one of the favorites for fans of diesel engines. If they keep the idea of a wagon-style Mazda 6 alive and continue to release this version, they will hit the mark.
The wagon style is much more spacious and looks more majestic. In addition, the Tourer has more trims and a wider choice of engines, including 2.2 diesel, which is in better shape than the petrol one. People who have had the opportunity to drive it, more often choose it over the coupe (sedan) model.
Interior
One thing is completely certain: Mazda will continue its “no Android and no iOS” policy in its Mazda 6 interior. But there’s a new player on the block. Google is developing an app that will enable a “compatibility mode” and connect your phone to everything, including Mazda’s native operating system for the infotainment system. Voice commands aren’t supported, but you can control everything via the touchscreen.
Further upgrades will come in better features such as heated and ventilated seats, a rearview camera with wide-angle coverage, push-button start, 7-inch display with Mazda Connect, power and heated side mirrors and much more. All of this will probably come with the cheapest base version. The upgraded range will probably bring a better audio system, memory seats, the adaptive front lighting system with automatic headlight leveling and traffic sign recognition. We will probably have three trims on offer: Mazda 6 GX, Mazda 6 GS and Mazda 6 GT.
Engine specifications
Perhaps the most important thing we were hoping for was the Mazda 6 engine. We were hoping for a change, even a small one. But it seems Mazda is too lazy or too scared to change anything here. That doesn’t mean anything and is probably just because the current engine is pretty good. They don’t need to change anything that is good, but at least make it a little better.
The old engine will return. SkyActiv-G 2.5 liter DOHC, 16 valves, 4 cylinders with VVT and a fuel economy of 36 mpg on a highway. The taming force for this one was and will be the six-speed automatic in the future (with an additional option for the manual). With that fuel economy and somewhere around 200 hp under the hood, it’s a good deal.
Mazda 6 Diesel is being considered, especially if we look at the sales of Mazda 6 Wagon in the US market. This model carries the 2.2-liter diesel engine with 173 hp, which is also paired with a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission. The AWD has not been mentioned yet, but not all cards are on the table. Time will tell about that and some other rumors like the Mazda 6 Hybrid.
I remember there were some rumors and even spy shots of a hybrid version that never came out. Maybe it would be wise to think ahead, and maybe (just maybe) hope that the Mazda 6 will be released with an additional hybrid engine.
Security
Mazda has developed a special safety system called i-ACTIVSENSE. Basically, this is the technology used in “smart cars” or cars with autopilot function. This time, the system of cameras and radars is not there to help the machine go from point A to point B, but to help the human.
It consists of 4 different systems, the Milliwave radar which reacts first and warns of possible obstacles, a camera that can detect obstacles and road signs at the widest angle and a near infrared laser for cruise control. The fourth is the Quasi-Mill Wave radar which helps the car and you to detect dangers from behind and from the sides.
The device has a number of functions:
- AFS – Automatically controls the low beam in the direction you point the wheel.
- HBC – Automatically detects incoming traffic and switches between high beam and low beam.
- MRCC – Controls vehicle speed and acceleration when traffic ahead is detected. (Advanced Cruise Control)
- RVM – It alerts you when traffic is approaching from the sides or behind.
- LDWS – It detects the lane markings on both sides and warns the driver if there is an unintentional lane departure. (Driver falls asleep)
- FOW – Alerts the driver when there is a risk of collision.
All of these features are “pre-crash safety technologies,” but remember that the technology is made by men.
Summary
Some spy shots appeared online and gave us a small glimmer of hope that we will soon see a better version of our new favorite coupe. It seems like we will get the same engines and different designs inside and out. Pretty mediocre changes for the release and it won’t be enough to beat the Volkswagen CC. Mazda has its own fan base and there is no doubt that sales will go as planned, but that’s not how you build the fan base, even for such a young vehicle.
