Mazda CX-5 2025: Price, interior, engine, picture.

Not rumors and just the rumors, but actual spy photos of the real Mazda CX-5 surfaced mid-year on the surface of this vast ocean of speculation, but we now have the Los Angeles Auto Show and a one-on-one look at the model.

Mazda CX-5

These photos just scared us at first because we still believe in the efficiency of the good old internal combustion engines. Mazda has the technology to prove that you can make efficient engines if you want to. You don’t need billions of € (Euros) to invest in research and development, you just need good engineers and willpower.

While all the major companies are deep into the hybrid and EV industry (which isn’t a bad thing – we all want to save the planet), Mazda is still trying to prove that the regular engines have a place here in the present and aren’t going to museums anytime soon.

The key to their success is SkyActiv technology, which prevents the last possible failure of petrol and diesel. With clever engineering ideas, they managed to improve the good old combustion engine and make it up to 20% more efficient than its conventional counterparts. Their first hypothesis was that the conventional engine only consumes 30% of the potential energy of the fuel. They proved their worth and produced the most efficient engine architecture ever. So we congratulate them.

Mazda CX-5 release date and price

We expect the release date for the Mazda CX-5 to be sometime in the third or fourth quarter of 2017. This has been a thing for all previous models, and Mazda will continue the tradition going forward. The price of the Mazda CX-5 will be around €25,000 (Euro) without any additional equipment, and up to €35,000 (Euro) for fully loaded models.

In the meantime, we have published an article about 2019 Mazda CX 5 so you can check it out too.

Mazda CX-5 Exterior

The exterior of the Mazda CX-5 is a bit different from the previous models. It looks like it has most of the elements of the latest CX-9, but there are some differences. For starters, the Mazda CX-5 is a compact crossover and one of the most popular vehicles in the Mazda lineup. The design of the interior and exterior is very important to the survival of this car, just because of the love for this vehicle.

As I said, there are hints from some other models, which is natural, but there are these little details like the different five-point grille. The updated CX-9 , Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 have grilles that go straight to the headlights, the all-new Mazda CX-5 is like stamped across the grille. Tiny details, but very important to the face of the car.

Again, all the important details have been carefully taken care of… (this is the first time we’ve said this), just beautiful camouflage. Seriously, I would love to respray my car like this.

Mazda CX-5 interior

Like the rest of the car, expect the interior of the Mazda CX-5 to share the same faith. That’s not a problem, and it never will be when we’re talking about Mazda. Every trim level looks premium, so although you don’t get leather in every trim, it somehow feels like you’ve bought a Lexus or an Audi.

The interior will most likely be geared towards the driver’s needs and no, you won’t get the third row of seats, they don’t come that close to the CX-9. Everything else, from the central screen to the control dial to heated and ventilated seats, will be there.

Wood and Nappa leather will be part of the top trim level. Also expect navigation to only be available on the higher trim levels. But in the age of smartphones and tablets, who needs navigation in the car?

Mazda CX-5 Engine

The most important thing for the Mazda CX-5 engine is the addition of the 2.2 SkyActive-D diesel engine, which was only made for this generation of the CX-5. The patrol version is already known, and there have been many rumors about it, but at the LA Auto Show last month, we were able to speak to those responsible for the engine. They also told us that the architecture is the same, but boy oh boy, have they explored the s… out of the suspension, steering, torque and noise cancellation.

This ends the old habit of strong and economical engines and Mazda has perfected the process of manufacturing the ideal engine. Expect the 2.0 and 2.5-litre turbo engines with direct injection. The new SkyActiv technology will deliver around 29.6mpg combined for the petrol engine. The diesel option does not have the estimated fuel economy but we will let you know if we find any new details.

Mazda CX-5 Summary

The big thing about all of Mazda’s vehicles is that they haven’t started researching hybrid or EV technologies yet. They’re not investing in them because they had obviously started the research process for the more effective internal combustion engine long before hybrids were a thing. They have plans for those areas, but in a few years. The SkyActiv technology combined with completely redesigned interiors and exteriors is enough to remain optimistic.

The Mazda CX-5 is a beautiful vehicle that looks and runs very well. Mazda throws away all the loud and rugged elements and the vehicle is now smooth, quiet and economical. Most importantly, it’s cheap considering all the things you get for your money. This is an ideal compact SUV. Well done, Mazda!
