Mazda CX-9 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
Although the new Mazda CX-9 has been a little slow on the up for years, its spacious interiors may be one of its strongest attributes. Other highlights include an easily accessible third-row bench seat, a powerful V6 engine, and responsive steering. The release date should be expected sometime in August .
Mazda CX-9
Mazda is known for its reputation as a carmaker that infuses the soul of a sports car into every vehicle it gets its hands on, and the new CX-9 is no exception. It’s nimble and offers fun to drive personality despite its size. But that’s not exactly the news here. Buyers looking for a seven-passenger behemoth will most likely need a vehicle that offers adequate hauling and towing needs.
If space is what you’re after, the CX-9 is for you. In the three bench seats it’s equipped with, it offers its occupants plenty of leg and headroom. Further back, the cargo space is ample and promises to hold a considerable amount of cargo during those occasional weekend safaris.
Still, not everything about the CX-9 is amazing. Some of the weaknesses include a largely underwhelming touchscreen interface, mediocre crash test scores, a stiff ride thanks to the large footprint, and long rear doors that are awkward when parking in compact spaces.
Hopefully, there are plenty of good choices in the segment to meet your needs if the CX-9 doesn’t, including the spacious Chevrolet Traverse , Dodge Durango, Toyota Highlander, GMC Acadia, and Ford Flex.
Release date & price
Pricing for the CX-9 is expected to start at an MSRP of $29,985. Although not confirmed at this time, my crystal ball tells me we should expect the CX-9 SUV sometime in mid-, likely in August.
Trim Options – Mazda CX-9
The seven-passenger Mazda CX-9 will be offered in Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trim levels.

Our photographers on a photo op were able to capture some of its exterior colors, including Blue Reflex Mica, Meteor Grey Mica, Jet Black Mica, Liquid Silver, Titanium Flash Mica and Crystal White Pearl Mica. However, expect minor changes on the release date as Mazda is yet to announce any changes to the color palette.
Standard accessories and features on the CX-9 Sport model include tri-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, heated mirrors, full power accessories, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, an adjustable driver seat, HD and satellite radio, a 6-inch touchscreen interface, cruise control, Pandora Internet radio, and driver lumbar support.
By upgrading to the CX-9 Touring trim level, you get an adjustable front passenger seat, a blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, four-zone automatic climate control, automatic headlights, leather upholstery, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and an upgraded premium sound system.
The top-of-the-line CX-9 Grand Touring expands the luxury department with driver memory settings, keyless entry and ignition, fog lights, 20-inch wheels, a rearview camera, a power liftgate, automatic wipers and xenon headlights.

Mazda CX-9 engine specifications and fuel consumption
Motivating the engine under the hood is a 3.7-liter V6 engine mated to a six-speed automated manual transmission and either FWD or all-wheel drive. Output remains unchanged at 273 hp and 270 lbs. ft. of torque, according to Mazda.
A fully loaded Mazda CX-9 should be able to achieve a maximum towing capacity of around 3,500 pounds.
Zipping from 0-62 mph in the front-wheel drive CX-9 takes around 7.5 seconds – a quick acceleration figure considering the segment average is only around 8.2 seconds. The all-wheel drive model, on the other hand, takes 8.5 seconds.
Coming to the fuel economy numbers, according to the EPA, we should expect the AWD models to return 16/22/18 mpg in the city/highway/combined and 17/24/19 mpg in the front-wheel drive models.
