Mazda MX-5 Miata 2025: Updates and innovations in the iconic roadster
With the new Mazda MX-5 Miata, we get a small refresh for this vehicle. Not much has been added, but there are small parts added to the car that may have been overlooked when the fourth-generation model came out. The current generation MX-5 Miata is the most successful model to date, and it’s great that they’re keeping things mostly clean with it.
Mazda MX-5 Miata
The Mazda MX-5 Miata was first seen in 1989. This model is considered one of Mazda’s best-selling convertible models. Its history spans 21 years on the market and fourth generation models have been produced within this period.
The current 4 -gen vehicle is perhaps the most impressive vehicle they have made and has achieved many accolades already, so it is quite difficult to top what they did with this version of the car.
The outgoing Miata is a compact sport roadster with a RWD and an exceptional style that owes to the Shinari concept that the design is based on. The innovations they made with this new version of the car were to significantly reduce the weight and change the dimensions of the car. This resulted in the car being much lighter and achieving higher performance, improved fuel efficiency and better drivability.
After releasing the first images of the Mazda MX-5 Miata , we hesitated to publish our take and review.
When is the release date of the Mazda MX-5 Miata ?
The latest Mazda MX-5 Miata will make its debut later this year. The updated version will launch towards the end of the fourth quarter of the year, which would mark an early entry for the Mazda fleet.
What’s the price?
The latest updated Mazda MX-5 Miata will maintain the similar prices listed for the current car. The base model costs €24,915 (Euro) with a manual gearstick, while the automatic version costs €25,990 (Euro). Higher trim levels include the Club trim priced at $28,600 and the Gran Touring, which you can get for $30,065.
Exterior appearance of the Mazda MX-5 Miata
As it seems, the Mazda MX-5 Miata will have a very similar styling to the current model. The biggest innovation that the new generation car made was to reduce the weight of the car and make some additions in terms of aesthetic changes that bring the vehicle close to its original model. The model uses steel as a frame and adapts some high-strength parts that improve rigidity while keeping it as light as possible. The grille is also much smaller and reminiscent of the original Miata models. The headlights have a slanted design and add LEDs. Also, it offers a new lighting configuration.
The backend has more of a unique layout and they have opted against a traditional one. A high bumper and a protruding trunk lid are added and we get a generally sharp type of fascia with a rounded headlight design and sharp edges for the indicators. The profile is also much sleeker and this is where the difference lies too. A sloping hood and musical fenders now distinguish the car and in some ways it appears like a GT.
Interior design
The cabin of the Mazda MX-5 Miata has been somewhat redesigned. In fact, the new design of the car retains the old toned-down and minimalist styling, but makes it useful and functional in every way. The dashboard is carried over as completely identical, but the previous plastic insert from the dashboard has been removed and replaced with a soft-touch insert. They also managed to re-capture the dashboard a little and clean it up considerably, as they moved most of the controls to the touchscreen and now use fewer buttons and switches.
A hallmark of every Miata is a three-spoke steering wheel, which will also make an appearance here, and the center console will also be similar. The door panels are completely new, however, as they have now taken on a more premium look for this version of the car. The seats are also slightly modified, and the driver’s seats are slightly lowered and are intended to provide a better seating position for the driver. When you are behind the wheel in this car, you get a more race-like feel compared to the previous ones.
Powertrain Update
There have been many claims about what powertrain the Mazda MX-5 Miata will include, but in the end we have a model that is familiar to the Mazda lineup. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv powertrain has been used in some previous Mazda models and has proven to be a good option for those vehicles. Inside the Mazda MX-5 Miata, it will be capable of producing an output of 155 horses and 148 pound-feet of twist, which is actually the same amount it makes in the Mazda3 model.
The Japanese version of the Mazda MX-5 Miata will harness the power of 129 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque, but both versions use the same six-speed manual transmission, while the U.S. spec adds a SKYACTIV-DRIVE six-speed automatic as well.
0-62 mph per hour and maximum speed
As for the capability of the Mazda MX-5 Miata’s engines, the car will introduce some very suitable acceleration specifications. It will still take 6.5 seconds to reach 0-62 mph per hour and maintain the top speed of 130 mph that the current generation models have.
Fuel consumption figures for the Mazda MX-5 Miata
The Mazda MX-5 Miata takes full advantage of the weight reduction process that has been carried out and also takes advantage of the prospect of the existing powertrains. This allows it to achieve a fuel economy rating of 27 mpg city, 34 highway, 30 combined for the manual versions, while the cars with the automatic shifter are rated at 27/36/30 mpg. This makes the MX-5 Miata a better car than the version we had before.
Improved security
Using a different platform for the Mazda MX-5 Miata also improves its safety specifications. The high-strength platform protects passengers better, in addition to reducing the weight of the vehicle. But besides that, we also get the standard equipment of every model. For example, robust side impact door beams, dual front airbags and side curtain airbags are added here. Crash tests are yet to be conducted, but we are sure that some improvements will be made in terms of crash test results.
Dimensions, weight and turning space
The Mazda MX-5 Miata has perfect and balanced dimensions when it comes to its overall size. The vehicle has already adopted a new type of layout that ultimately improves the performance of the car and improves its fuel efficiency. The overall length is now trimmed to 154.1 inches, the width is 68.1 inches, the height is 48.62 inches, and the wheelbase is 91.4 inches. Weight is an important factor here as the manual shifter version weighs 2,332 pounds while the automatic version weighs 2,381 pounds. Inside, we have a passenger volume of 48 cu ft while the trunk capacity is 4 cu ft.
Competing vehicles
With the updated Mazda MX-5 Miata we want to establish it in the market. The current model is already at the top of the segment and has managed to get all the awards that reinforce its position. Among the models that must be mentioned are the Nissan 370Z Roadster and the Mini Roaster, which are great cars in their own right and deserve the same claim and mention.
