Although the design part is more or less done and in the books, the problems still lie for the engine. It is up to the designers and how quickly they can produce a new fuel-efficient Wankel engine. They are working on it with full force and based on their success, we can expect the new car to make its debut.

When is the release date for the Mazda RX-7?

The Mazda RX-7 is expected to make its debut in mid-. Since the design of the car is more or less a closed book and we already have a basic idea of what the car will look like, all that remains now is the engine design and how they will pull that off. The new generation rotary engine is currently being developed and we expect it to arrive in time for a confirmed release date in mid-.

How much does the Mazda RX-7 cost?

Perhaps it’s too early to say how much the Mazda RX-7 will actually cost. However, based on current news and early speculation, we’re looking at a price tag of more than €35,000 (Euros) for the base version. The base MSRP price will likely be released once engine specifications have been finalized.

Exterior concept

The exterior design for the Mazda RX-7 will depend mainly on the concept car. The car we saw last season will be the basis for the new production version, albeit with some production-friendly changes. As with most concept cars, it is nearly impossible to translate the design of the car into a production version. The Kodo language will be the basis for the car and will feature an aggressive look.

But compared to the subcompact, we will certainly get a higher roofline. This will affect the interior clearance and in this way also provide more shoulder room. The handles of the car will be stock ones and the grille is said to be larger, with multi-spoke wheels also being added.

The front end will certainly get a new set of headlights and the bumper will also be revised. Horizontal slats and some chrome surrounds are also announced. The rear could also change a bit with the tailgate and taillights getting some changes and a “floating” spoiler and a different diffuser being added.

Interior update for

Even though the concept for the Mazda RX-7 has been kept nice and clear inside, it is very likely that the changes will be implemented. The interior already looked like it was production-ready, so there won’t be many things that will be changed. The interior will certainly see some changes to the instrument cluster, center console, and door panels. The center stack will be updated with button controls and knobs, and the infotainment system will get a larger display.

The concept version also added a lot of leather and aluminum inserts to the car. We see that these inserts are only available on the higher trims of the car, while the basic offers more down-to-earth elements. They are making the RX-7 just like the RX-5 was made cheaper. To make the car as affordable as possible, they will reduce the special additions for the base version of the car.

New engine changes

The powertrain option for the Mazda RX-7 is the biggest mystery and at the same time the biggest draw. The thing that has been released is that the car will use a rotary engine and it will be called SkyActiv-R. The current specifications are not available as the engine is still under development and we expect it to be completed by . We can speculate that the power will surpass the 275 hp of the Porsche Cayman and since one gets lighter, it will reach 250 hp and more.

Mazda RX-7 0-62 mph per hour acceleration

The same applies to the specifications of 0 to 100 km per hour for the Mazda RX-7 model. Since the development of the model is not yet complete, the car aims to have an acceleration speed of less than five seconds and a top speed of 250 km / h.

Fuel consumption values

The fuel specifications for the Mazda RX-7 are said to be significantly better compared to the previous versions of the car. With the development of the new rotary engine, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are reduced to a minimum. As they have stated from Mazda, the new generation model is said to be at the same level for an equivalent standard petrol engine.

Dimensions and size

The size of the car will remain at the level of the concept, keeping the Mazda RX-7 at the same standard. But apart from the dimensions, they will ultimately make the car much lighter. This is an equal part of the overall design, which uses a completely new platform for the car and updates the weight. The aluminum and carbon fiber inserts play a big role in making this model a very light and economical car.

Safety assessments

Mazda is adding a number of safety equipment to the Mazda RX-7. The announcement has not been made yet as to what we will actually get, but we can expect a standard set of interior additions that will be made. At the moment, the crash scores are not ready and will only be revealed once the car is on the road and for sale.

Competing cars

In terms of performance and production, there are some vehicles that the Mazda RX-7 can compete with pretty well. The given concept for the latest model that will come out will gain some new competition. The Porsche Cayman is the closest rival and the car that the RX-7 is trying to copy, but at the same time they do a good job of being a car in their own right and offer some competing specifications.
