There’s a Mercedes A45 AMG in the pipeline, but there are a lot of things that aren’t clear yet. Images of the upcoming car have recently surfaced and we’ve seen a camouflaged vehicle preparing for a release, but there’s still a shroud of secrecy that doesn’t tell us what it could possibly be.

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG

The current third generation of Mercedes A-Class cars was introduced in 2012. At the Geneva Motor Show, we were able to see the respective cars for the first time. It’s time for this car to slowly transition into the fourth generation models that are in the pipeline. But it seems that the model in the pictures is not the next generation model, but something completely different.

Currently, there is a lot of speculation as to how these could be called the A45 S or A45 R or even the Black Series, but the thing is that the car will help fans transition into the next phase of A45 AMG cars much more smoothly.

When can we expect the release date for the Mercedes A45 AMG?

The latest Mercedes A45 AMG is still in development but seems to be in the mid-development phase. The vehicle looks like it could be a very lucrative offering for the segment and actually offers very good and moderate styling. However, the release date will not be possible before . So, we are sure that this model will be released sometime in the first quarter of . Unfortunately, the current news states that its Mercedes A45 AMG version is unlikely to be available for the US market, but they can still change their mind and offer it throughout the year.

What is the expected price?

As for the pricing of the Mercedes A45 AMG, that is yet to be determined. The current version costs around £40,000 or about €48,976 (Euros) if we convert it to € (Euros). With more power for this model and an expanded range, we expect this variant to cost more, so actually somewhere in the region of £45,000 or €55,098 (Euros).

First glimpses of the exterior of the Mercedes A45 AMG

At first glance, the latest version of the Mercedes A45 AMG looks quite similar to the outgoing version. The front fascia has a grille bisected by two horizontal chrome trim lines and is connected to the LED-equipped headlights. Added to this are daytime running lights and under the housing are large, deep intakes that reflect the headlight shape. The lower grilles also have a bisecting line, but this time a splitter is added.

Looking at the car from the side, we see a classic hatchback shape with a flat roofline that ends in a rear duckbill spoiler. The shoulder line gives the feeling that the car is leaning forward a bit, while the side skirts are hidden under the camouflage for now. Also visible are the seven-spoke wheels. The rear end seems to be completely unchanged, and it seems that they decided to carry over the lower diffuser and add a black insert with two sets of two square exhaust pipes.

Although not that much seems to have changed for the Mercedes A45 AMG, there are some parts that are not yet shown and that we will have to wait for. The chassis and suspension details will probably play a bigger role this time around.

What is internal cooking?

We got a quick glimpse of the interior of the Mercedes A45 AMG and found that it looks pretty good. The racing-inspired theme is very good and it also helps knowing that the car comes with plenty of extras as well. The very first thing that caught our eye is the three-spoke square multifunction steering wheel, which is of course wrapped in leather and features contrast stitching. Paddle shifters have also been added to control the dual-clutch transmission.

Some carbon fiber materials are added on the dashboard. More metal is also added that will outline the infotainment controls and a tablet will appear above them. There is an additional display in the center of the instrument cluster that will provide driver information.

The padded sports seats are equipped with a red trim and is also used for the ventilation slots and armrests of the center tunnel. As part of the infotainment system, there is also additional Apple CarPlay support.

Powertrain and engine specifications

There is a strong possibility that the Mercedes A45 AMG vehicle will use the same engine as the current model, but it will be slightly improved. The current models use the 2.0-liter four-cylinder platform and develop 381 horsepower plus 350 pound-feet of torque at 2,250 rpm. This is complemented by all-wheel drive via a 4Matic AWD system and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. But with the A45 AMG, we expect the current offering to be improved and we will get more power under the car’s belt. Therefore, the model is expected to reach 370 pound-feet of torque and even 400 horsepower.

0-62 mph per hour and maximum speed

Currently, there are no statistics available for the Mercedes A45 AMG and its acceleration and top speed, but some assumptions have to be made. The current car manages to do 0-62 mph per hour in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. With the upgrades added to this performance-oriented version, we see the car even managing this feat in under 4 seconds, which would be great.

Fuel consumption figures and expectations

Currently, we cannot talk about the fuel economy of the Mercedes A45 AMG. It is still not sure what they are planning and whether it will help the car to spend less. However, the performance-oriented improvements will increase the performance of the car but nothing has been said about the fuel economy. This will probably be addressed and the information will be released soon.

Some changes to chassis and dimensions

Some interesting changes have been made to the body of the Mercedes A45 AMG. The car is based on a W176 MFA architecture, half of which remains the same for the version. However, the W176 will be updated with the generation changes, but we also believe that the fastest A45 AMG will keep its W176. This means that there will be some changes in the new model, starting with the track, which is set to be increased. This also means that the weight will also be reduced, making it a little less than the 1,555 kg or 3,428 pounds. This is achieved by adding some lightweight materials and also aluminum.

Will there be improvements in terms of security?

The latest Mercedes A45 AMG will also have to take into account some safety features, but for now we are only sure that the Cornet models will return and be used again. This means that safety and driving assistance systems such as the autonomous braking function in the Collision Protection Assistant Plus, the Traffic Sign Assistant or the Improved Attention Assistant will be presented again. There are possibilities to make some extensions that will be adapted to the performance of the car.

What competing cars can we expect?

With the release of this latest version of the Mercedes A45 AMG, we also look at some competing models that will also be released. Among the most suitable, or indeed the vehicles that will be the biggest competitors for this car, are the Audi RS3 Sportback and the BMW M140I. Pretty nice company if you ask me.
