Mercedes-Benz EQB 2025: Electric Compact Crossover
As Mercedes-Benz prepares to launch a full range of electric vehicles, the boxy Mercedes-Benz EQB – based on the GLB -class petrol-powered SUV – joins the coupe-like EQA among the first offerings from the new EQ sub-brand.
SUV Mercedes-Benz EQB
An all-electric powertrain with at least 221 horsepower and a range between 200 and 250 miles is a good start – although it’s possible we’ll see a cheekier power number in a dual-motor offering. Similar to the GLB-class SUV, the EQB offers a spacious cabin with high-quality materials; a third row of seats is available, but it’s quite snug and most adults won’t find it comfortable.
What’s new ?
The EQB is an all-new model for the Mercedes-Benz lineup and is scheduled to go on sale in North America by the end of .
We expect the EQB’s available trim levels to mirror those of the larger EQC , but we haven’t set pricing yet. We don’t know exactly how the EQB will be equipped or what features will be standard or optional, but we’ll find out closer to the SUV’s on-sale date.
Engine, transmission and performance
The EQB will likely share its powertrain and battery components with the swoopier EQA, and both are expected to share chassis components with the gasoline-powered GLA and GLB-class SUVs. The entry-level model will be the EQB250, which will come with a 221-hp electric motor and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive may be optional, and a more powerful EQB350 model could also be offered. When we get a chance to test the EQB, we’ll update this story with test results and driving impressions.
Range, charging and battery life
The 66.5 kWh battery in the EQA should fit nicely under the floor of the EQB, but Mercedes may opt for a slightly larger package for the boxier version of its small electric SUV. A range of at least 200 miles per charge would be necessary to be competitive with rivals like the Audi e-tron and Tesla Model Y. We’ll know more when the EQB goes on sale.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Once the EPA tests the U.S. version of the EQB, it will provide an efficiency rating in MPGe, which is a miles-per-gallon equivalent for electric vehicles. Once we get an EQB to test, we’ll drive it through our 75-mile highway fuel economy route and report the results here. For more information on the EQB’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.
Interior, comfort and cargo
Mercedes ported the cabin from the GLB-class SUV to the EQB with a few changes that set it apart from its gasoline-powered counterpart. There are five seats in two rows with an optional fold-out third row. Nicely trimmed door panels, soft leather upholstery and bright metal trim give the EQB’s cabin an upscale styling feel. The EQB, also like other EQ models, also features lovely rose gold interior accents. Mercedes says the addition of a battery pack intrudes on passenger and cargo space, but we didn’t have a chance to evaluate this for ourselves.
Infotainment and connectivity
Mercedes-Benz’s latest MBUX infotainment system is featured in the EQB. It offers touchscreen, voice commands and steering wheel controls for audio, navigation and other functions. We found this new interface to be frustrating at times, especially the overly enthusiastic voice assistant that pops up every time you say the word Mercedes. Navigation offers a feature to help drivers find electric vehicle charging stations more easily.
Safety and driver assistance functions
We expect the EQB to offer a full range of driver assistance features, at least as an option. Given the advanced nature of this vehicle, several features will likely be standard. For more information on the EQB’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features are likely to include:
- Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection as standard
- Available lane departure warning with lane keeping assist
- Available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode
Warranty and maintenance coverage
The EQB is likely to offer the same warranty coverage as the EQC and other Mercedes models. While some rivals like the Jaguar I-Pace offer free scheduled maintenance as part of the standard warranty package, EQB buyers will likely have to pay for maintenance out of pocket.
Price Mercedes-Benz EQB
Mercedes continues to unveil its new range of electric cars, showing off the Mercedes-Benz EQB battery-electric compact SUV at the Shanghai Auto Show. We expect sales to begin in Europe next year, although there is no information on EQB pricing yet. It is a close brother of the petrol-powered GLB crossover, so it is safe to estimate that the EQB will be above the GLB’s starting price of around €38,000 (Euros).
