Mercedes Benz SL-Klasse 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.

The updated version of the Mercedes Benz SL-Class is just around the corner. There was some talk about this model arriving late, but as it turns out, we will get it early. The debut was made at the North American International Show for this car and it was the sixth generation model that was supposed to replace the current one.

Mercedes Benz SL-Class

It was quickly realized that the car needed more work, so it was separated from the smaller SLK brand. The facelifted version was therefore recently unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, making room for an apparent release date that will come very soon.

The fifth generation SL-Class models were launched in 2003. A major facelift followed in 2008 that almost changed the face of the car. The sixth generation models were released in 2012, and this new version will be a part of it. The SL-Class is probably one of the most recognizable cars Mercedes has produced, and it has been around since 1954 when it was introduced as the 300SL model.

With the new models of the Mercedes Benz SL-Class and its range, several revisions are coming. In fact, the base version will move from the SL400 to the SL450 as it will receive a revived V-6 engine. The V-8 engine will be carried over and used for the SL550 variants, while the AMG brand will offer a V-8 for the SL63 and a V-12 for the SL65. The updated version has been reviewed and we also have the exclusive images that will just be an introduction for the upcoming car.

Release date for the Mercedes Benz SL-Class

The latest Mercedes-Benz SL-Class model is primed to arrive sooner than we think. We expect the new model to drop between mid and late 2017. Although it is a model, its appearance could come much sooner than we expected.

Price range

We can expect the entire range to receive higher prices for the Mercedes Benz SL-Class. This puts the car in a higher position than the current fleet of cars. The current ones have a base MSRP price of $85,050 for the SL400, while the AMG SL65, which raises the bar all the way up to $217,550, is the highest paid.

Exterior redesign

The changes made to the Mercedes Benz SL-Class give it much more premium styling and actually differentiate it much more from the cheaper SLK model. The front end has a lot more character in its design and there are new LED headlights and chrome or carbon fiber accents. A new hood has also been added which also has a power dome installed. The LED taillights and rear decklid are more rounded than before and it is also paired with some sharp angels to mix things up a bit.

Wheel options have also been revised and 19-inch options are available alongside the 10-spoke and 5-spoke designs. Opting for the AMG package gives you six additional wheel designs. There are also two new colors to choose from, including Brilliant Blue and Selenite Gray Magno. The car also uses Mercedes’ Magic Sky Control to take down the two-piece hardtop roof.

Interior of the Mercedes Benz SL-Class

The interior has only made minor changes for the Mercedes Benz SL-Class. The interior feels more premium than before due to the elements that have been added and made. There is now a three-spoke steering wheel and a twin-tube design instrument cluster for the speedometer and tachometer, as well as a center-mounted TFT display.

You can get some leather seats in saddle brown color made of Nappa leather and exclusive Nappa leather. You can also equip the interior with night mood lighting which has three options: solar red, polar blue and polar white.

In-car connectivity has been greatly improved with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, including third-party apps like Stitcher Radio and Spotify, which also work hand-in-hand with SiriusXM radio.

Engine options

What we are most excited about about the Mercedes Benz SL-Class is that the used twin-turbocharged V6 engine under the hood offers 34 more horsepower. This increases the power to a total of 362 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque. The changes incorporated were also used to change the name to SL450.

SL550 versions come with a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V-8, offered completely unchanged. Output is 449 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. This option uses the new nine-speed automatic shifter.

When it comes to AMG options, the SL63 features a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that makes 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, while the SL65 uses a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 that makes 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque and uses seven-speed Speedshift automatic transmissions for both AMG models.

0-62 mph per hour Technical data and maximum speed

The Mercedes Benz SL-Class also offers some equally exciting specs when it comes to acceleration and top speed. This brings us to a performance of 4.9 seconds to reach 100 km per hour from a standstill for the SL450 version, 4.3 seconds for the SL500, 4.1 seconds for the AMG LS63 and 4.0 seconds for the AMG SL 65. The top speed for all models is set at 155 mph.

Fuel consumption values

EPA ratings for the Mercedes Benz SL-Class model range from 14 MPG City Drive and 20 MPG Highway for the SL450 and SL500 versions, while both AMG models are rated at 21 MPG City Drive and 27 MPG Highway.

Dimensions change

The latest Mercedes Benz SL-Class lineup will not change the dimensional settings compared to last time, and we can expect to see more of the same in terms of numbers. We are looking at a car that will have a full length of 182.3 inches and a wheelbase of 101.8 inches. The height will be 51.2-51.8 inches, while the width will be 73.9 inches. Inside, we can also expect a lot of space with a passenger volume that measures up to 54 cu ft, while the cargo volume is still 9-14 cu ft. The curb weight varies between 3800 and 4300 lb depending on the trim type.

Safety devices

The new Mercedes Benz SL-Class comes with some active and passive safety features. The active ones include Active Brake Assist, which automatically turns on the brakes if the driver does not manage to do so in time. The optional part of the package includes Distronic Plus with steering assist, active brake assist, blind spot assist, and Pre-Safe and Pre-Safe Plus systems. All of them come with the available Driver Assistance package.

Competitors

When it comes to the competition to the Mercedes Benz SL-Class, here we can only mention the Porsche 911 Cabriolet version and the Jaguar F-Type Cabriolet. These models offer a number of similar features, but the SL-Class has released an outstanding update that makes it a suitable car for this type of segment.
