MG5 EV 2025: Price, specifications, picture.

Until now, electric cars have typically been compact and have a short range. Not anymore! The MG5 EV offers enormous space and up to 400 kilometers of electric range.

Along with the MG Marvel R Electric, a new MG5 Electric (new MG5 EV) with a fresher design and improved range was digitally debuted in March . At the time, SAIC said it would launch the redesigned MG5 Electric in Europe in October . Now the roadmap has been revised and the new model will arrive at dealerships from the first quarter of (January to March ).

Design features

Compared to the current version, the MG5 EV has a cleaner design that makes it instantly recognizable. At the front, the new model features a specially designed nose without a large artificial grille, unlike the current model. The slimmer headlights, vertical side air vents and redesigned bumper give the new electric station wagon a sharper and bolder appearance.

Shiny new alloy wheels enhance the styling on the sides. At the rear, visual changes include optimised combination lamps, a new bumper and triangular artificial air outlets with smaller light reflectors.

The MG5 has a more modern design in the cabin. The new dashboard is sleek and stylish, with blue inserts, slimmer and repositioned air conditioning vents, a fully digital instrument cluster instead of a semi-digital unit, a new floating touchscreen infotainment system called “iSmart” and a modern floor console. Overall, the new interior is cleaner and makes the cabin richer. The bright upholstery of the dashboard and seats sets a more vibrant tone and complements the refreshed design of the interior.

The MG5 EV’s features also include MG Pilot Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and V2L (at 2.5 kW). The new model will be available in Comfort and Luxury trim levels.

Specifications

Compared to the current MG5 EV, the MG5 EV features significant changes in terms of specifications. Firstly, it will be available with a 50.3 kWh battery pack instead of 52.5 kWh. The optional Long Range battery is the same 61.1 kWh unit. The revised standard range battery is said to deliver a range of 320 km or 199 miles on the WLTP cycle. The Long Range battery enables a journey of 400 km or 249 miles on a full charge on the WLTP cycle.

Another major upgrade on the new MG5 EV is an 11 kW 3-phase on-board charger, enabling fast charging from 0 to 80% SoC in just 30 minutes. The electric motor is the same 115 kW (154 hp) / 260 Nm (192 lb.-ft.) unit that drives the front wheels.

Features

The MG 5 SW Estate is available with features like projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, 6-way power adjustable driver seat with manual lumbar support, heated front seats, rear foot ventilation, etc.

Competitors

The MG5 electric station wagon currently has no direct competitor. It is the only electric station wagon sold in the UK and the world. Electric cars in the UK and Europe are typically available in hatchback ( Honda e , Nissan Leaf , VW e-Up ! & Mini electric ), sedan ( Hyundai Ioniq & Tesla Model 3 ) and SUV body styles ( VW ID.4 and Hyundai Kona ). MG is the first company to recognise the need for a zero-emissions station wagon, a common preference among fleet operators and families travelling with a lot of luggage.

Price

Prices for the new MG5 EV in Europe start at under 30,000 euros. UK-specific prices are not yet known.
