New BMW i3 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
The new BMW i3 was BMW’s first zero-emission production vehicle and was launched as part of BMW’s BMW i sub-brand for electric vehicles. The i3 was presented as a concept at the 2011 International Motor Show and production began in July 2013 in Leipzig.
New BMW i3
The BMW i3 has been designed from top to bottom with sustainability, exceptional styling, superb handling, driving dynamics and battery performance in mind. Constant innovation and a drive to progress mean that the BMW i3 and BMW i3 share a common goal: to be class-leading electric vehicles.
The BMW i3 offers a balance between sharp, sporty lines on the outside and an open and flowing interior.
Performance
Full power right from the start: The BMW eDrive electric drive delivers maximum torque immediately. So when you hit the road with the new BMW i3 or BMW i3, you experience sustainability in its most dynamic and agile form. The accelerator pedal also acts as a brake: when you take your foot off the accelerator, the kinetic energy is recovered and the vehicle is braked. This innovation, known as the “one-pedal feeling”, allows you to experience driving dynamics even more directly.
The BMW eDrive electric drive is a proprietary development by BMW. The full torque is available when standing still and when on the move, the power flow continues without delay. This is due to the powerful engine working in combination with a single-stage transmission, which completely eliminates the need for gears. Driving the BMW i3 is also a virtually silent and odorless experience that allows you to relax and enjoy a uniquely new kind of driving pleasure.
styling
The six exterior colors of the new BMW i3 and the have one thing in common: their expressiveness. The color spectrum of the two non-metallic and the four metallic colors ranges from muted to expressive and can be freely combined with any interior. Depending on the choice of exterior color or interior, the highlight areas on the side sills and the double kidney grille are available in either BMW i Blue or Frozen Gray Metallic.
The contrast of the Black Belt and the exterior paintwork gives the vehicle a highly innovative two-tone styling that underlines its dynamic characteristics. The light alloy wheels of the new BMW i3 and i3 are designed to be particularly narrow to keep air and rolling resistance as low as possible. The large tire diameter of 19 “and 20” reinforces the sporty and agile character of the vehicle and helps to maximize tread contact. Some rims are closed to avoid unnecessary air turbulence and increase the vehicle’s range.
design
The cabin of the i3 and i3s is quite different to any other car on the market. There’s no transmission tunnel to get in the way, and many of the materials used are tantalisingly unconventional: the top of the dashboard is made from recycled plastic, for example, and olive leaves are used to tan the leather upholstery. Sustainability is the defining feature here, which is entirely fitting and only makes the car seem a more authentic product. Move to the rear seats, however, and the same feeling of spaciousness isn’t as prevalent.
Visibility is good back there, but legroom is tight even by supermini standards, and the rear-hinged coach-style side doors, which lock to those up front, can make accessing the rear seats more of a hassle than it really needs to be, particularly in a tight, vertical bay. It’s also worth remembering that the i3 and i3s are strict four-seaters.
What’s new ?
BMW has made only one change to the i3 program : the previously optional adaptive LED headlights are now standard. BMW has announced that will be the last year of the i3.
Unlike other electric cars on the market – hybrids excluded – the i3 offers a gas-powered range extender for those who don’t trust driving on electricity alone. That said, we wouldn’t take our i3 on long road trips even with the fossil backup. Instead, we’d opt for the all-electric version and use it primarily in the city as well as on short highway trips for our daily commute.
