The first generation Lexus NX crossover debuted in 2014 and has managed to find more than a million buyers during its lifetime. The main market for the model was Europe, where almost 340,000 SUVs were sold by the end of .

Sales in Europe turned out to be much more modest – only about 110 thousand cars in the same time interval. Well, in Germany, the NX can be considered almost a bestseller, because today the crossover has sold about 20 thousand cars in our country. It is the undisputed leader in the segment of premium compact SUVs. Better than the Lexus, only the older RX is sold.

The debut of the new generation of models was announced at the beginning of last year, now the “second” Lexus NX is officially presented. The assembly of the crossovers will begin in the third quarter. In Europe, sales will begin in late summer. Prices and configurations will appear later, for a pre-reform car on the market today they ask for at least 32,500 euros.

Body design and dimensions

As part of the modernization, the SUV switched to the new GA-K platform and became related to the latest RAV4 . The result was a changed arrangement of components and assemblies, which improved the weight distribution along the axles and reduced the center of gravity by 20 mm. The Lexus HX was also slightly larger: the length and width of the steel increased by 20 mm (4660 and 1865 mm, respectively), and the height was 5 mm (1650 mm). The wheelbase was extended by 30 mm – up to 2690 mm.

There have been no significant changes to the exterior design. The traditional grille and dynamic profile remain, there are still many sharp edges and angular shapes. But the head optics are now made from a single piece – with boomerangs of navigation lights integrated into the structure of the main blocks. The taillights, on the other hand, have received new graphics and a now fashionable sweater, which, however, does not merge with the L-shaped side panels. Instead of the brand logo, the Lexus lettering now adorns the tailgate.

Interior

The nX’s interior has been completely redesigned. The instrument panel has a completely different architecture, with the multimedia system display facing the driver and slightly closer to him. The media center is controlled by touch or voice commands – no more touchpads and joysticks. There are physical controls for quickly adjusting the climate control and audio volume. The basic Lexus Link Connect system has a screen diagonal of 9.8 inches, while the more productive and functional Lexus Link Pro has 14 inches.

The new crossover steering wheel is equipped with programmable touch buttons that allow you to change settings without taking your eyes off the road. All actions must be confirmed via a 10-inch head-up display. A 7-inch virtual instrument panel is available to display the most important on-board data.

The equipment of the new Lexus HX also includes an improved electric tailgate that can open / close the door in 4 seconds, improved wireless charging of smartphones, 64-panel contour lighting. From , support for wireless connection of gadgets using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto protocols will appear. In the list of options there is also a digital key that allows you to lock / unlock doors and start / stop the engine from your smartphone via Bluetooth. This key can be shared with seven people registered in a special Lexus application.

An interesting option is the electronic door locks, which can be unlocked from the inside by simply pressing the handle. They are forcibly locked if there is a danger from an approaching car or cyclist when driving out. You can also open the doors as usual – by simply pulling the handle towards you.

Another new “nx” was sent with the latest version of the Lexus Safety System + 3.0. It includes adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, lane keeping and reading traffic signs. The work of the assistants has been improved.

Technical data

The second generation crossover will delight you with a variety of modifications. In the countries of Eastern Europe, including the Russian market, the NX 200 and NX 250 versions remain in service, the first version is equipped with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with a capacity of 150 hp. and a variator, the second – with a 2.5-liter engine with a capacity of 199 hp. and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The next variant – Lexus NX 350 – has a 2.4-liter turbo engine with 279 hp. and 430 Nm. Here, too, the gearbox is an 8-speed automatic, and the drive is full with the function of dynamic thrust distribution.

The Lexus NX 350h hybrid replaced the 300h modification. The power unit of such a car is formed by a bunch of aspirated 2.5 liters and an electric motor, which produce a total of 244 hp, which is 47 forces more than the power of the previous system. By installing an additional electric motor on the rear axle, the hybrid becomes all-wheel drive. The new Lexus NX 350h accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.

At the top of the range is the latest NX 450h + plug-in hybrid, the first plug-in petrol-electric Lexus. It is powered by the same 2.5-liter engine, but is combined with a more powerful front electric motor, and the rear one is standard here. The power is 306 hp, and this is enough to accelerate to “hundreds” in about six seconds. The Lexus NX 450h+ is equipped with a lithium-ion traction battery with a capacity of 18 kW*h, which allows a mileage of up to 63 km when driving on an electric traction. The maximum speed in pure electric mode is limited to 135 km/h. Charging the battery from a 240-volt network with a commercial 3.3 kW charger takes 4.5 hours, with an optional 6.6 kW charger about 2.5 hours.

The configuration of the “nx” chassis has remained unchanged – all also used by the MacPherson strut at the front and multi-link at the rear. But the chassis has been calibrated in a new way and the power steering and braking systems have been reconfigured to improve control precision.
