The appearance of the electric crossover

The exterior design of the novelty corresponds to the Vision iNext concept , which was shown back in 2018. The series shocked fans of the brand and independent experts with its aggressive appearance – the branded “nostrils” of the radiator grille became gigantic.

The design of the false grille not only performs decorative functions, but also effectively hides various components, including sensors and radars. Polyurethane was used to assemble this part. Minor damages and defects are healed on this material in almost a day. With a flow of warm air, they are tightened in 5 minutes.

The novelty borrows the proprietary grille and style from the conceptual Vision iNext, but retains the rigor of the lines in the rear. The following materials are used to manufacture body parts:

Aluminum alloy ;
carbon fiber cocoon; carbon cage. The use of such solutions increases the strength of the body, improves aerodynamic performance and reduces overall weight.

The rear doors of the presented novelty have undergone a number of global changes compared to the doors of the Vision iNext concept. By integrating stricter lines into the transitions, the doors became wider, which had a positive effect on practicality.

In profile, the BMW iX looks less aggressive. The boldest reliefs and straight-line transitions are visible on the wheel arches. The sills are decorated with characteristic light blue accents. Such elements are also present at the rear and front protrusion of the crossover. However, they do not change, despite the different variations of the body color. These details are used to emphasize the electric character of all i-Range models.

Interior

The interior of the electric crossover BMW iX in 5-seater conversion looks luxurious and modern. The first impression of the car’s interior is the maximum space and a combination of expensive finishes with high-tech on-board equipment. The headrests are integrated into the seats and the panoramic roof gives the interior an extra futuristic look.

When creating the interior design, maximum functionality was monitored, taking into account all the needs of a modern consumer.

Unlike other recent BMW releases, the BMW iX electric crossover does not have a center tunnel. This decision made it possible to increase the amount of free legroom for front and rear drivers, as well as the capacity of the luggage compartment.

The configuration of the center console is well thought out. This design resembles a decorative element rather than a functional one. In the lower part there are cup holders, a storage compartment for a smartphone with induction charging, a 12V socket and two USB-C ports.

Designers have kept the number of monitors and control components to a minimum. There is only one display in the cabin with a curved matrix BMW Curved Display. It combines a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 14.9-inch reference monitor.

BMW software is well thought out down to the smallest detail. The proprietary operating system supports gesture control, which is very convenient while driving. In addition, the intelligent 3rd generation system ensures that the vehicle stays in its lane.

The on-board equipment is compatible with 5th generation cellular networks, which instantly transmit all data on the road surface. The information received helps the crossover to automatically adjust the suspension and activate safety systems for an instant start.

A progressive hexagonal steering wheel and a new gear selector are available to control the main functions.
The main interfaces are only visible when the user really needs them. This is a defining feature of the Shy Tech concept – it is retained in elements such as the integrated speakers of the in-house audio system, air vents, heating parts and the BMW Head-UP Display projector in the instrument panel.

The cabin contains crystal buttons for adjusting the seats, a washer for controlling the information and multimedia center, mode switches and a volume control drum. Standard is a 6-angle steering wheel, front seats with integrated headrests, ventilation, heating and massage functions. The panoramic roof has electrochromic glazing. The interior has high-quality upholstery in Sensatec fabric and leather.

Under the fairing are important technological elements that affect safety and keep the car light. The combination of aluminum and carbon alloys has improved rigidity and aerodynamics.
