New Jeep Grand Cherokee L 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
Concern FCA introduced the fifth generation of the New Jeep Grand Cherokee L , and the novelty debuted in an extended version with three rows of seats. This version, which received an additional letter L in the name, will soon roll off the assembly line at the Mack Avenue plant in Detroit and will go on sale in spring .
Grand Cherokee L
By the end of the year, the classic five-seater version of the SUV will be ready, followed by modifications to the SRT, Trackhawk and Trailhawk. At the top of the scale is the rechargeable Grand Cherokee 4xe Hybrid, but it is likely to be launched as early as .
The priority launch of the seven-seat version, which was first introduced into the Cherokee family, is due to the increased demand in Europe, specifically for three-row crossovers and SUVs. These vehicles account for up to 70% of sales in the midsize SUV segment. Jeep, of course, paid attention to this fact for a long time and even launched the Commander model in the desired format in 2005, but it was not a success and quickly disappeared from the scene. The developers seem to have taken all the mistakes into account and are now ready to offer a new product under an established name.
Design and dimensions
The car in the new WL body broke away from the Mercedes platform and switched to the Giorgio “trolley”, which previously formed the basis for the fresh models of Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. The integration of the third row of seats has naturally led to a significant increase in dimensions. So, the new Grand Cherokee L was 384 mm longer than the previous five-seater SUV, and its wheelbase increased by 175 mm. The front and rear track is also wider (38 and 33 mm). The final dimensions of the body: 5204x1963x1816 mm, the wheelbase – 3091 mm.
In the design of the “fifth” Grand Cherokee, there is clearly a continuity with previous generations, but here borrowings from the new Wagoneer concept are clearly visible. In addition to the classic seven-part grille and trapezoidal wheel arches, the new model received a rather massive hood, massive bumpers, neat lighting units with thin diode strips of running lights.
Top versions wear 21-size alloy wheels and a glossy black roof with roof rails. The off-road-focused Overland features a more aggressive body kit, tow hooks and 18- or 20-inch wheels with off-road tires.
Options
Salon Grand has been significantly redesigned. The configuration of the front panel has been changed and better decorative materials have been used. The instrumentation has been adapted to the requirements of the time: there is a digital instrument cluster with a 10.3-inch diagonal, a modern multimedia system Uconnect 5 with a screen diagonal of 8.4 or 10.1 inches, a projection display of 10 inches. There are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto protocols with support for wireless connection of devices, a Wi-Fi hotspot, induction charging for two devices at the same time, 12 USB-A and USB-C ports.
Additional options include an electric tailgate with touchless opening, ventilation and seat massage, advanced McIntosh acoustics (19 speakers) and a rear-view camera for passengers. The set of electronic assistants includes night vision, driver monitoring, lane keeping, recognition of road signs, detection of obstacles when leaving a parking lot. There is also a second-level autopilot that can drive a car on highways. By the end of , there will be an updated version that allows you to take your hands off the steering wheel.
Depending on the layout of the second row (captain’s chairs or three-seater sofa), the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers six or seven seats. The volume of the cargo area behind the last row is 484 liters. By folding the rear seats sequentially, the trunk volume increases first to 1328 liters, then to 2396 liters.
Technical data
Despite the platform change, the Grand Cherokee remained technically true to itself. It is still available with three all-wheel drive options:
- Quadra-Trac I – single-stage transfer case;
- Quadra-Trac II – two-stage transfer case with reduction gear;
- Quadra-Drive II – rear axle differential with locking function;
The rear-wheel drive versions will also remain in use. The suspension of the new Grand Cherokee L is a fully independent multi-link chassis. An adaptive chassis with an adjustable ground clearance of 170 to 277 mm is available as an option (the standard ground clearance is 216 mm). The SUV can overcome water obstacles up to 610 mm deep.
Now to the main point – the units. The Cherokee retained the old engines: the basic V6 3.6 Pentastar (294 hp, 348 Nm) and the powerful V8 5.7 Hemi (362 hp, 529 Nm). The second engine is equipped with a low-load four-cylinder shutdown system. Both units are combined with an 8-speed “automatic”.
Price
When it goes on sale, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L will be offered in four trim levels – Limited, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve. The starting price is forecast at around €40,000 (Euro).
