Peugeot 208 GT

The second generation of the Peugeot 208 GT is enjoying a notorious commercial success. Since its launch in the second half of 2019, the popular Peugeot model has established itself as one of the best-selling commercial vehicles in Europe. It is one of the references to beat in the B segment. Now, time is moving inexorably forward and it is time for the French manufacturer to embark on the next revision of its small car.

Peugeot begins preparations for the development of the design that will allow this generation to face the rest of its business life ahead of them. A “design” that will bring very important news. The first information on this mid-cycle refresh has seen the light and, more importantly, we accompany it with some interesting recreations.

Restyling coming in

On an aesthetic level, there will be relevant changes. The objective is none other than to adapt the 208 to the new design philosophy that Peugeot applies to all its new models. More specifically, the reference will be the new Peugeot 308. The “older brother” of the 208 marks the path that the design will follow. However, since it is a “design”, there will not be too radical changes. And most of them will be focused on the front.

The replicas attached to this article give us an idea of what the new 208 will look like. There are new features on the grille, headlights and, how could it be otherwise, the new Peugeot logo will appear. New customization options are also foreseeable. So colors for the body, the wheels and, as we will see later, the interior.

Speaking of the interior, we can directly link to technological improvements. The infotainment system will be updated with new functions and tools. The base touchscreen will be larger. The 208 will take a step forward in terms of connectivity. In addition, the list of driver assistance systems will be expanded.

Peugeot 208 Engine

About the mechanical section, the 208 will increase its commitment to electrification and sustainable mobility. At the moment the Peugeot e-208 can boast of being one of the best-selling electric cars in Europe. However, and beyond this 100% electric variant, the rest of the mechanics with which the 208 is sold are conventional. Well, this is going to change.

The 1.2-liter PureTech gasoline engine will continue to be the backbone of the combustion engine. Now, this popular block will be modified to meet stringent emissions regulations. Versions equipped with a manual gearbox will be electrified with 48-volt light hybrid technology (MHEV). Automatic models will benefit from a new e-DCT dual-clutch transmission developed by Punch Powertrain-PSA and will incorporate an electric motor.

The aforementioned e-208 will also see mechanical changes. The previous 100 kW (136 hp) engine will be replaced by a new power unit designed and manufactured by the Nidec-PSA joint venture. An improvement in autonomy is also expected thanks to various actions on the battery. In addition, and to mark the launch of this update, the Peugeot e-208 GT , the most efficient and powerful alternative in the range, will be introduced into the company.

Price Peugeot 208 GT

Peugeot has made various preparations for the launch of the new Peugeot 208 GTi Sport model, which is currently based on a three-door Peugeot, but the new model will only be offered in a five-door mask. The design of the Peugeot 208 GTi Sport will be the next five doors, like almost all of its competitors.

Based on the price of the previous Peugeot edition, the price is €22,100 – €23,100. If the new model of the Peugeot 208 GTi Sport does not get a dual-clutch transmission and/or electrification, then the price will probably not change much compared to the old model.
