The roadmap that Peugeot will follow over the next few years includes the launch of a whole range of new electric cars. One of the products that the French brand has on its agenda points directly to the SUV market and more specifically to the urban segment. A small, affordable and zero-emission car that will drive this sustainable mobility offensive.

In the recent past, there have been several comments about the possibility that Peugeot is developing a new model that will be the entry-level model in the SUV range – a “little brother” of the Peugeot e-2008 . This project is gaining momentum and new information from our neighboring country is shedding some light on the matter.

The Peugeot e-1008 will be an electric SUV for the city

Currently, Peugeot supports a good part of its sales at European level in its SUV range. To the 2008 mentioned above , we must add the Peugeot 4008 and the Peugeot 5008. All are best sellers in their respective categories. The lion company is aware of this particular commercial attraction which, together with the unstoppable growth of electric mobility, offers the perfect opportunity to venture into a project with these characteristics.

Positioned as the spiritual successor to the Peugeot 1007, which was launched in the mid-2000s and was never completed, this new model will be very different. Known internally by the code P44, it is part of the global “Smart Car” program that Peugeot is working on for emerging markets (India and Latin America) and Europe.

One of the main markets where the Peugeot 1008 will operate will be US. In the countries that make up MERCOSUR, these types of small, affordable urban crossovers concentrate the majority of sales. But despite this journey through South America, in Europe it is intended to play a leading role as an electric vehicle. And that is precisely the key. In the old continent, this new SUV will only be sold with 100% electromechanics. The Peugeot e-1008 .

Modern technology and robust style

The new Peugeot SUV will be powered by Stellantis’ CMP platform, the same architecture that we find in models such as the Peugeot 208. Under the premise of matching costs as much as possible (which is crucial in the A segment), it will share certain technical elements with the next generation of the Citroën C3 , namely already outlined.

As for the styling, the sketches that illustrate this article allow us to take a look at the line that will follow. Carlos Tavares himself, CEO of Stellantis, has specifically asked Matthias Hossain, Peugeot’s new design director, to revisit the designs from the era of his predecessor Gilles Vidal. The 1008 and its electric version e-1008 will feature cubic shapes that allow you to maximize the space in the passenger compartment and trunk. In addition, it will show off its adventurous styling.

Although in the US market it will be available with combustion engines adapted to the use of ethanol, in Europe, as we have already mentioned, it will only be sold in electric format. This, together with its SUV status, will allow it to position itself as a more complete alternative to the Dacia Spring. Well, logically, the price will be higher. Taking the Peugeot e-1008 , one of the best electric cars , the new e-1008 will have a smaller battery and a reduced power engine to achieve a balance between autonomy and performance. All this keeps the price in the spotlight to prevent it from falling.

Peugeot e-1008, a replacement for the 108 city car?

In addition to occupying the position of entry into Peugeot’s SUV range, the new e-1008 will also occupy the first tier of the French manufacturer’s European offer. The Peugeot 108 will soon leave the market through the back door and with no direct replacement on the horizon. Traditional city cars, although there are exceptions, are losing momentum. The e-1008 will be launched sometime in . The manufacturing process will take place at Stellantis’s facilities in Trnava, Slovakia.
