Subaru Forester

The Outback model is considered a worthy competitor in the SUV segment and has already proven its performance and usability, but the new brand promises to update the features and offer us so much more than we normally expected from the Subaru brand. One of the main advantages of this car was its price and we hope that it remains competitive for this version too.

What this model has always had is a significant amount of ground clearance compared to other competing cars. The car had a clearance of 8.7 inches, making it a very tall car for the SUV market. On this basis, it gave the Outback a rugged demeanor while trampling against many of the rival brands.

Now that the release date is fast approaching, we felt it was time to showcase what the upcoming Subaru Outback could present to us. Here is an assessment based on the renderings offered and currently available images of the car.

When will the Subaru Outback be released?

We expect the Subaru Outback to arrive in . The model looks almost production-ready, with a few nips and tucks that need to be fixed to get the car ready for sale, so the release date will inevitably be early in the model year.

How much will the Subaru Outback price be?

The Subaru Outback will continue to be an affordable car. The previous Outback models were very affordable and this model will have the same premise. The base price for the base option will be €25,645 (Euro) for the base option, while the Premium rises to €27,695 (Euro), the Limited to €32,390 (Euro) and the Touring version to €35,995 (Euro).

What are the exterior changes of the Subaru Outback?

The design of the Subaru Outback is kept to the traditional standard. In fact, the Outback is the best wagon-like car you will see on the market right now, even when the segment is filled with all kinds of crossover vehicles. This design is kept to its traditional standards with a few updates here and there. Although it is based on the Legacy model, it does not share any sheet metal with it and mostly stays to itself in the redesign.

The last time the Outback was redesigned was in 2015, when the car received a more comprehensive refresh. Those features were retained, and we see the same kind of styling here with minor changes that change the appearance of the model. The new look is a bit rougher and swept back, and actually offers a more space and function-focused approach. Specific changes include a more upright grille and different curves on the hood.

Interior for the Subaru Outback

The interior of the Subaru Outback has a number of functional features that make it a better car. It manages to bring in more stylish features and uses a strong and upright center stack that is also flanked by an enormous dash. Visual separation is provided by an additional glove box with wood accents.

The Touring trim offers further advantages inside. There is the Java Brown leather upholstery which is contrasted with ivory stitching. This trim is also available exclusively with a Brilliant Brown for the exterior, allowing the whole car to be combined in a unique way.

Engine power and technical data

The engines for the Subaru Outback will not be changing. It will continue to use the same two engine options that were available last year. The base option is the 2.5-liter flat-4 that makes 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. However, if you want a bigger and more powerful option, there is the 3.6-liter flat-6 that makes 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque and offers a 3,000-pound tow rating, as opposed to the base version’s 2,700 pounds.

0-62 mph per hour acceleration?

With the same engines, the Subaru Outback offers the same speed capability. It is reduced to 9.1 seconds to reach 0-62 mph per hour and also offers a top speed of 126 mph. The vehicle is not that light, so we cannot expect to improve the acceleration rates that easily. But it still runs well and the towing rate is more important here.

Fuel consumption specifications

Don’t expect the Subaru Outback to make many improvements in fuel economy. The car will still be priced the same as before. Although unfavorable, it still boasts standard performance for the segment it competes in. The base version offers an EPA rating of 25/32/28 mpg, while the larger engine is tuned to 20 mpg city, 27 highway, 22 combined.

Dimensions and trunk

With the update for the Subaru Outback, we will not change the dimensions. The exterior of the car will be kept the same so the overall length will be 189.6 inches with a wheelbase of 108.1 inches. The height will be kept at its regular 66.1 inches and the width will be 72.4 inches. Although the car looks rough compared to before, this is not due to the dimension changes but due to some changes made for the exterior of the car. The weight will also be around 3700-3900 lb. The interior volume of the car will remain around 105-108 cu ft while the trunk capacity is set at an excellent level of 36 cu ft.

Safety devices

The previous version of the Outback received good safety ratings and this will also be carried over to the Subaru Outback. The IIHS has given it a top safety pick with a good overall rating thanks to the car’s expanded optional equipment. In addition to the additional equipment, the Subaru Outback has also made some structural changes with the latest update that make the interior much safer. These changes will be retained for this version as well and we can expect to get a traditionally good-looking and safe model at the same time.

Rivals list

In the segment that competes against the Subaru Outback, there are many models to consider. In fact, the wagon-like model is unique in many ways. It offers a number of styling and functional features that other rival vehicles do not. Among the cars that we have to mention are Audi Allroad , Ford Explorer , Jeep Grand Cherokee and Volvo XC70 .
