Suzuki Jimny 2025: Changes for Europe and new versions for Asia

The Jimny has always been popular with off-road enthusiasts, not only for its capabilities but also for its striking styling and very affordable price. This especially refers to the current generation, which has only been around for a few years. Normally, we wouldn’t expect major changes in such a short period of time, but the Suzuki Jimny actually gets away with many.i

We’re not talking about a classic mid-cycle refresh or anything like that. If you’re familiar with Jimny’s production cycles and body-on-frame SUVs in general, you probably know that refreshes aren’t that common in these cases. Instead, the Jimny is just adapting to different parts of the world to meet not only customer demands but also legal issues. So we’ll see different types of changes in Asia and Europe.

Suzuki Jimny in Europe

It’s no secret that many manufacturers are struggling to meet the requirements of the European Union market. This particularly concerns emissions standards, which are really high. That’s why we see fewer diesel engines than before. The situation isn’t much better with petrol engines either, and Suzuki’s well-known 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine cannot meet the latest requirements. Therefore, it can no longer be sold on the old continent.

However, Suzuki management has found a way to stay in Europe with this model. The latest emissions standard only applies to passenger cars. It is very different for trucks, vans, pickups, etc. Therefore, the Japanese manufacturer has made a few modifications. The rear seats have been removed, and there are also a few more modifications in the cargo area and the rear, so that the Suzuki Jimny will come to Europe as a commercial vehicle in . So a two-seater Jimny is now the only version you can get in Europe.

Suzuki Jimny on the Asian market

The situation is quite different in markets like India and Southeast Asia in general. There, the Jimny is also very popular with families. For this reason, Suzuki is working on a four-door version, reports say.
Of course, this model would receive several modifications, and the first one that comes to mind is the wheelbase, which measures around 88 inches in the standard model. The stretched version is expected to have around 100 inches between axles, putting it on par with Vitara and many other subcompact SUVs and crossovers. That should be enough to accommodate four doors, comfortable rear seats, and even the extra cargo space. Of course, the boxy shape will remain the same, so the Suzuki Jimny 4-door will be a decent hauler as well.

Design and specifications

Elsewhere in the world, the Suzuki Jimny will remain pretty much the same. That means you can count on a familiar design that, in addition to the eye-catching styling, also offers some pretty serious performance, especially off-road. The model’s small dimensions are just great for handling tough terrain. The approach angle is approximately 37 degrees, while the departure angle goes up to 49 degrees. Plus, the breakover angle is about 28 degrees. Add to that a part-time 4×4 system and a low-speed transfer case and you get one of the most capable off-roaders among small SUVs. We also like the 3-link coil spring suspension, which may seem rudimentary by today’s standards, but provides excellent rigidity and reliability on tough terrain.

The powertrain remains the same, of course. You can count on a familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that offers a maximum power of around 100bhp. That’s not much, but considering the Jimny’s size and weight, the driving dynamics are actually pretty good. The engine comes with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic and power is sent to all wheels on all models.

Release date and price

We expect to see the Suzuki Jimny in the coming weeks. We expect European models to be cheaper since we are now talking about a commercial vehicle. In the rest of the world, base versions are expected to be around €24/25,000 (Euro).
