Tesla Model X EV 2025: Price, interior, picture, electric motor.
The Tesla Model X EV is a prime example of the electric car maker’s brand ethos. Fast, high-tech, and with a striking gimmick in the falcon-wing rear doors, it presents a unique but expensive offering in the growing EV crossover segment. The Model X comes standard with two electric motors totaling 670 hp and all-wheel drive; a three-motor version called Plaid produces an astonishing 1020 hp and is said to shoot to 100 km per hour in just 2.5 seconds.
SUV Tesla Model X EV
This mega-engine version will be available in late , according to Tesla. The Model X is not as nimble as the mechanically similar Model S sedan, but it is surprisingly maneuverable given its size and weight. The cabin is an exercise in modernism, with a huge screen dominating the dashboard and offering touch-sensitive access to most of the Model X’s features. A third row of seats can accommodate the whole family, and the second row can be ordered with captain’s chairs.
What’s new ?
Last year’s Long Range model is now simply called Model X, and its estimated range drops from 363 miles per charge to 351 miles per charge, down from 340. The yoke-style (rectangular) steering wheel introduced last year is awkward.
The Plaid model, with its three electric motors, certainly provides brutal acceleration, but it’s mighty expensive. And its estimated 335-mile range isn’t as long as the cheaper base model, so we’d save the money. The base Model X offers an estimated range of up to 550 miles and still feels mighty quick thanks to the immediacy of the electric motors’ power delivery.
Electric motor, transmission and power
The base Model X comes standard with two electric motors – one on the front axle and one on the rear axle – that enable all-wheel drive. This setup is very fast and Tesla claims a zero to 100 km per hour time of 3.8 seconds.
The 1,020-hp, three-motor Plaid high-performance variant boasts a claimed zero-to-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds, but we haven’t yet verified its acceleration times at our test track. When we tested the Model S Plaid – the Model X’s sedan platform mate – it managed a gut-compressing 2.1-second zero-to-60 mph time. Handling is respectable, but the Model X’s party trick is the strong acceleration generated by its electric motors.
Interior, comfort and cargo
A stark and almost button-less interior design is the classic Tesla. The driver is faced with a digital display and a unique yoke-style steering control that is often frustrating to use and difficult to get used to.
Also unique is the Model X ‘s windshield/glass roof , which extends seamlessly from the base of the hood and up and over the passenger seats, providing a virtually uninterrupted view of what’s in front of and above.
Despite these racy features, the Model X’s cabin leaves nothing to be desired, especially considering the price tag can easily break the six-figure barrier with unassuming vents, misaligned panels, and flat-back seats that don’t offer enough adjustments.
Range, charging and battery life
The Model X comes standard with a battery large enough to cover a claimed range of 351 miles; upgrading to the faster Plaid model reduces the estimated range to 335 miles. Charging is quick via one of Tesla’s Superchargers located around the country. Charging at home via a 240V or 120V connection will be slower but likely more convenient for owners, so Tesla offers home chargers for purchase.
Infotainment and connectivity
A huge touchscreen infotainment system dominates the dashboard and controls almost all of the Model X’s various functions and settings. A secondary digital display directly in front of the driver serves as the instrument cluster. Tesla’s infotainment system is certainly high-tech, but what you won’t find is Apple CarPlay or Android Auto capability. Rear-seat drivers are treated to their own small display that provides entertainment and presumably some control over the car’s functions.
Prices and market launch
Tesla is now taking orders for the updated Model X. Deliveries are not expected before . Prices start at €95,990 for the dual-motor model, while the more powerful checkered version costs €116,990.
