Toyota Compact Cruiser EV 2025: New Electric SUV from Toyota.
Toyota has a long history of building off-road SUVs, from the FJ Cruiser to the 4Runner to the luxurious Land Cruiser . While the Land Cruiser is withdrawing from the U.S. and European markets starting in , and the FJ Cruiser hasn’t been sold since 2014, Toyota wants to remain competitive in the off-road space as the market shifts to electric vehicles and will in the years to come.
SUV Toyota Compact Cruiser EV
The SUV, which debuted the Compact Cruiser EV concept, will feature a boxy design, rugged bumpers and body cladding. Very little is known about the electric powertrain, but the instant torque from the electric motors should make it decently quick and capable of navigating rough terrain.
What’s new ?
The Compact Cruiser EV will be an entirely new model for Toyota when it launches, and will likely have a more creative name. We expect the electric off-roader to launch for the model year. It will likely share some suspension and drivetrain components with other upcoming electric Toyotas, but there isn’t much information yet on the Compact Cruiser EV’s mechanical components.
Styling
The rugged styling and color combinations immediately bring to mind the 2006 FJ Cruiser. This is natural, as both models have strong references to Land Cruisers of the past. At the front, the Compact Cruiser has a retro grille with Toyota lettering, surrounded by horizontally arranged LED headlights for a J80-like face.
The unpainted bumper with protruding aluminum-style skid plate and vertical slots makes the compact cruiser look rugged and ready to conquer the wild. The heavily sculpted profile with plenty of plastic trim on the fenders features wraparound windows that appear to be connected to the upright windshield.
The retro-style rims are fitted with all-terrain tires and the generous ground clearance suggests more than adequate off-road capabilities. At the back there are Wrangler-style LED taillights and a strange-looking door that houses the roof rack extension.
Inner
While Toyota only released a few official images, we managed to grab a few more from the video presentation showing different angles of the car. This included an interior shot that revealed a large portion of the dashboard.
There’s a freestanding panel with a digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen, an oddly shaped steering wheel, a high-mounted center console with few controls and plenty of storage space on the dashboard, taking a user-focused approach similar to the new Land Rover Defender.
Price
We estimate the Compact Cruiser EV to be priced at around 30,000 euros. We’ll know more about trim levels and pricing for the Compact Cruiser EV as the on-sale date approaches.
