The current generation of Toyota’s largest SUV is too old in every way. It’s been around since 2008, so it’s no wonder fans of this reliable and capable SUV are desperate for a complete redesign.

At this point, we are still waiting for official confirmation, but if we can rely on rumors, the new model will arrive next year as the Toyota Sequoia. Once the Japanese manufacturer is done with the new Tundra, it will start completing the process of its SUV sibling.

Design features can only be speculated at this point. The only thing that is certain is the platform, which will be the same as the next generation Tundra. In addition, we expect completely new styling, new interior design, new engine options and the like. The new Toyota Sequoia should be much better in every way compared to the previous model. We expect to see the all-new Sequoia sometime in the second half of next year.

This will be the first redesign in nearly 15 years, so it’s not hard to conclude that it will be massive. At this point, officials are still quiet, but some of the aspects are pretty easy to predict. This particularly relates to the platform and the mechanics in general. Just like the upcoming Tundra, the new Sequoia will ride on a body-on-frame version of the new TNGA platform.

Compared to the previous model, it will bring improvements in various aspects, starting with equality. The new model will certainly have a lower center of gravity, which will provide better handling for this huge SUV. The new model is also expected to be significantly lighter. Combined with new engine options, this should have a very positive impact on fuel efficiency.

Design

When it comes to the exterior design, we can see a few rendering photos on the network. They all show the same thing, and that would be a typical SUV body combined with Toyota’s new design language, which is expected to be presented with the upcoming Tundra. It is characterized by massive, bold lines and attractive, futuristic headlight design. Of course, the Toyota Sequoia may come with a few differences but we are still waiting for the officials to come up with more details.

As you can see, we expect major styling changes for the Toyota Sequoia. What we don’t expect are major changes in terms of size. We expect the new model to have similar dimensions to the current model, which already boasts an impressive size. It has a wheelbase of 122 inches, while the overall length is over 205 inches. As mentioned, we expect the new model to be significantly lighter compared to the previous generation, which weighs over 5,730 pounds.

Inner

This is the aspect where Sequoia desperately needs changes. The current model has not changed too much since its launch in 2008. Moreover, the cabin has remained mostly untouched, which means that it has a rather outdated dashboard design that not only looks old but is also made mostly of low-quality materials. We expect this to change with the upcoming redesign. The new Toyota Sequoia is expected to look much nicer on the inside. We expect the new model to have a more attractive dashboard and much finer materials. In addition, we also bet on a full load of new tech features.

However, the interior and overall utility will not change much. The new model will certainly continue with three spacious rows of seats and a respectable cargo space.

Motor

The current model uses an old and thirsty V8 engine and that will change. We expect the Toyota Sequoia to switch to a turbocharged V6 engine, just like the Tundra. That means a 3.4-liter V6 engine with about 409 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The engine must be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the standard petrol version, we could also see a variant with a hybrid drive. We assume that the system will be based on a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a total output of around 450 hp. At the moment, officials are still silent.
