review
The Astra includes the company’s new Griffin logo, which first debuted on the Mokka, and will also feature the new brand face called the Vauxhall Vizor. Headlights with wing-shaped DRLs flank the black panel that houses the emblem, while the front bumper is part of the grille, presumably opened to cool the battery pack. The bonnet also features a centerline that runs into and through the emblem, which ends at the bumper.
From the side, you can see the hatchback design, complete with a sporty two-tone roof and a painted body with a painted C-pillar. The rear wears a roof-mounted spoiler and slim headlights. The protruding bumper also gets a blacked-out diffuser for better aerodynamics. The Opel Astra-e should also have all the exterior details except for a few paint and badge differences.
Inner
According to the press release, Astra is taking a leap through time. Analogue instruments have been replaced by the fully digital Pure Panel, which also debuted on the Mokka. A touchscreen infotainment system is standard. However, the climate control still has physical buttons and switches for easy operation.
According to the press release, the front seats were specially developed and are characterized by exemplary ergonomics that offer full comfort even on long journeys. For lighting, the Astra gets the new Intelli-Lux LED pixel lights, a set of 168 LED elements that are lined throughout the interior. The hatchback also has a wheelbase of 2,675 mm, which allows for more space in the interior and 422 liters of trunk volume.
Features
The Pure Panel forms the 10-inch digital instrument display and the 10-inch infotainment screen under a long glass panel. Opel says that the designers were careful not to display any superfluous data or functions of the car so as not to overwhelm the driver, but to show all important information and useful operating options. The infotainment system, which users can also control with voice commands, supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Most of the functions used can also be called up via physical buttons.
And then there are the driver assistance features. Cameras and sensors around the car are integrated into Intelli-Drive with e-horizon connectivity. This allows the car to adjust speed in curves, provide speed recommendations and perform semi-autonomous lane changes, according to Opel. In addition, the car has adaptive cruise control, long-range blind spot detection, advanced traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert and active lane positioning.
