Volvo C40 facelift 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.

Volvo has cut the roof off its electric XC40 SUV to create the more stylish Volvo C40 . It has a lot in common with the XC40 Recharge, including its all-electric powertrain: two electric motors producing a whopping 402 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive. The interior is also similar to that of the XC40 , including that model’s clever storage solutions, high-tech Google Android-based infotainment system and high seat height.

Sedan Volvo C40 facelift

A large battery pack with 75 kWh of usable energy storage is expected to provide an estimated range of 210 miles per charge. The C40 Recharge will go on sale in early , when it will compete against models such as the Audi Q4 e-tron , Mercedes-Benz EQA and Tesla Model Y. But don’t expect to see the C40 Recharge at your local Volvo dealer, as it’s exclusively available via online ordering.

What’s new ?

The C40 Recharge, despite sharing much of its mechanical detailing and interior design with the Volvo C40, is an entirely new model for the Volvo range.
Although the boxy Volvo C40 is offered with the entry-level Plus trim, the more stylish C40 is only offered in the luxurious Ultimate trim, which adds niceties such as a panoramic sunroof, a Harman/Kardon stereo system and a 360-degree exterior camera system.

Engine, transmission and performance

All Volvo C40 Design models are equipped with two electric motors – one at the front and one at the rear – that can produce up to 402 hp; all-wheel drive is standard. Volvo claims this powertrain can accelerate the Volvo C40 Design to 100 km per hour in 4.7 seconds. This powertrain can be found in both the XC40 Recharge and the Polestar 2 electric car, which accelerated to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds on our test track.

Range, charging and battery life

Underneath the floor of the C40’s design lies a battery pack with 75 kWh of usable energy storage, which Volvo says should deliver about 210 miles of range per charge. Speaking of charging, all C40 Recharge models will be capable of 150 kW DC fast charging, which should charge to 80% in just 40 minutes. For those who want to charge at home, it’s also possible to plug the C40 Recharge into a 110-volt or 220-volt outlet, but charging times will be slower.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA hasn’t released fuel economy estimates for the C40 Recharge, but it should come in somewhere around the XC40’s styling, which is rated at 85 MPGe city and 72 MPGe highway. When we get a chance to test the C40 Recharge on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, we’ll update this story with details.

Interior, comfort and cargo

The C40’s cabin is the same as the XC40. That means a high seating position, clever storage solutions throughout the cabin, a large panoramic sunroof and high-quality materials and finishes. Don’t expect to see leather upholstery on the options sheet, though: Volvo has said the C40 will be the first Volvo models to be completely leather-free. Also unique to the C40 are backlit panels on the dashboard and doors that light up to show an abstract representation of a topography map.

Infotainment and connectivity

A touchscreen infotainment system running Volvo’s latest Google Android-based infotainment system will be standard and can receive over-the-air software updates. The system offers navigation via Google Maps and voice commands via Google Assistant. Additional apps will be available for download via the Google Play Store. There’s no word yet on a digital display or top-of-the-line Harmon/Kardon stereo systems, but we expect both to be available as either standard or optional features.

Safety and driver assistance functions

Volvo has not yet released a list of driver-assistance features for the C40 Recharge, but a variety of standard technologies will likely be offered when the new SUV goes on sale. For more information on the C40 Recharge’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features are likely to include:

  • Automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection as standard
  • Standard lane departure warning with lane keeping assist
  • Standard adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode

Warranty and maintenance coverage

Volvo offers a well-rounded warranty package on its new cars, including a free scheduled maintenance plan that extends over three years or 36,000 miles. The C40 Recharge is also available as part of the Care by Volvo subscription service, which also includes insurance, a home charging station and an extended maintenance plan.

Price Volvo C40 facelift

Now Volvo has announced that the Volvo C40 will start at €59,845 (Euro), not including any federal electric vehicle tax credits that buyers may be eligible for. Although its boxier sibling, the Volvo C40, will be available in both Plus and Ultimate trims, the C40 will only be available as a more luxurious Ultimate model.
