The company’s vice president of powertrain technology made it clear that the future generation engines will have smaller and smarter engines that will turn the V8 geared engines into full-grown dinosaurs. This statement is reality in a practical sense, as Volvo has replaced the 4.4L V8 as well as the 3.2L inline 6 with a new range of diesel and gasoline 4-cylinder engines. The SUV has received a hybrid powertrain for the first time, capable of producing 400 horsepower.

Design

The design of the Volvo XC90 t8 Hybrid is identical to its diesel and petrol predecessors. The SUV looks almost similar to the conventional XC90 and the only difference is the additional T8 badge on the tailgate and the fuel filler cap on the front fender. The XC90 t8 features a redesigned front fascia with thinner headlights and a modern grille that features ‘Thor’s Hammer’ on the LED lights during the day.

The sporty character is further enhanced by the muscular lines of the hood. The car has received a large modern design at the back and is no longer bulky. The taillights, bumper and tailgate have a modern design. This second generation XC90 is wonderfully beautiful and will impress any SUV lover.

inner space

The interior of the Volvo XC90 t8 Hybrid remains largely the same with soft Nappa leather used throughout the cabin. This is complemented by crystal trim and wood trim. The Volvo is also incredibly spacious thanks to its engineering architecture. The hybrid battery does not have a major impact on the cabin’s space and allows for an additional third row of seats. The placement of the battery makes the XC90 safer and easier to handle due to the low and more balanced center of gravity.

Hybrid engine

The Volvo XC90 t8 Hybrid has received more than five powertrains, but in perspective, the t8 combination is the most interesting of all. It features a two-liter supercharged and turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine, along with an 80 hp (60 kW) rear-axle electric motor. The combined hybrid output makes 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque, while the power is distributed to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Volvo’s latest advancement is the conventional petrol unit with a twin-engine technology. It uses a supercharger to fill the bottom and power range and a turbocharger for extra power in the rev range. This technology makes it possible to become the most economical hybrid. The XC90 hybrid can travel 40 km on electricity alone. There are five different modes for driving the XC90.
