VW I.D. Buzz 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
With electric vehicles becoming more mainstream every year and few spacious EV options for families, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz aims to appeal to a largely untapped market.
Volkswagen ID.Buzz
The design of the ID.Buzz is reminiscent of the German company’s legendary Type 2 Microbus – or VW Bus for short – which inspired the new van’s retro design. In addition to its unique nostalgic exterior aesthetic, its spacious cabin will offer flexible seating and three rows of seats.
The ID.Buzz’s all-electric powertrain will be available in rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations and is expected to deliver a range of around 2100 km. Connected to a DC fast charger, VW says the van can charge its battery from 5 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. The company also plans to eventually launch its Plug and Charge technology, which essentially eliminates the need to use an app or card for payment to unlock the charger.
What’s new in ?
When will ID.Buzz be available in Europe? In , this will mark the long-awaited return of the Volkswagen Transporter to our shores. Although we have already seen official photos of the new minivan, the company has not yet revealed many details, especially regarding the q version. However, most of this information should be revealed later this year, if not sooner.
VW hasn’t said how much the ID.Buzz will cost or what trim levels will be offered, but current market prices for electric vehicles lead us to believe it will start at around $40,000.
EV Motor, Power and Performance
The ID.Buzz will ride on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform, which currently underpins company products like the Audi e-tron crossover and VW ID.4 crossover. While Europe will get both a commercial and passenger version of the ID.Buzz, America will only get a long-wheelbase passenger version.
The base model will have a single, rear-mounted electric motor that makes 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. A dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration with around 295 horsepower — similar to the current ID.4 — will also eventually join the lineup. We drove a European version of the passenger car that has a shorter wheelbase and smaller battery than the one we’ll get in the Europa, but it still gave us a better idea of what to expect.
Range, charging and battery life
VW has released few details about the ID.Buzz’s battery pack, specifically the one used in U.S. models. The company has only said that the battery will be larger than the 77 kWh pack that powers the upcoming European model.
We expect the American ID.Buzz to have at least 2100 km of range per charge. VW claims that those plugged into a DC fast charger can charge from 5 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
Interior, comfort and cargo
One of the defining details of the ID.Buzz is its cavernous and configurable interior. The front seats have adjustable armrests and tables that can be folded out of the backrests for the rear passengers.
There’s also a removable center console between the front seats. VW says the Europe version comes standard with three rows of seven seats. Also in the cargo area, an adjustable load floor can be installed, providing 40 cubic feet of storage space.
The ID.Buzz’s standout standard features include a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, but top options include customizable ambient lighting and a set of massaging front seats.
Infotainment and connectivity
The VW Transporter’s infotainment system is primarily operated via a touchscreen that protrudes from the center of the dashboard. The standard screen size is 10.0 inches, but a 12.0-inch display is optional. We also expect the ID.Buzz to have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and possibly some sort of rear-seat entertainment system. A subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless device charging should also be on the list.
