VW ID.5 EV 2025: New Electric SUV Coupe from Volkswagen.
Volkswagen’s rush for new electric vehicles continues today with the launch of the VW ID.5 EV. The model will be available in two variants – standard and GTX – with three trim levels and three powertrain options. The ID. 5’s familiar shape – if you squint properly – is because it shares quite a bit with the ID.4 . Both have the same wheelbase and overall length, although the ID.5 gets a coupe-like roof to separate it from the more traditional-looking ID.4.
VW ID.5 EV
While the ID.5 is based on the company’s MEB architecture, it is not a complete copy of the ID.4 under the sheet metal. Unlike the ID.4 GTX, the ID.5 comes with just one battery pack – a 77-kilowatt-hour pack. It is paired with one of three electric motor outputs – ID.5 Pro, ID.5 Pro Performance or ID.5 GTX – depending on the trim level.
review
The VW ID.5 differs from the ID.4 behind the B-pillars with a lower roofline and dramatically angled hatch, giving it an aggressive stance and improved aerodynamics. Thanks to a curvier greenhouse and flatter rear deck, the ID.5 has a strong coupe-like appearance. The ID.5 features a rear tailgate spoiler, making it sportier. The interior design of the coupe version of the ID.4 is the same.
The VW ID.5 GTX gets special styling bits similar to the VW ID.4 GTX. Three honeycomb elements on the outer ends of the bumper form the LED daytime running lights of the GTX variant and subtly convey their presence at the front. At the rear, there is a GTX emblem on the trunk lid instead of the model nameplate.
Specifications
The VW ID.5 comes in Pro and Pro Performance trims, both exclusively in RWD powertrain layout. The ID.5 Pro uses a base engine with 128 kW (172 hp) and accelerates from 0-62 mph (0-62 mph) in 10.4 seconds. The ID.5 gets a more powerful 150 kW (201 hp) engine, which allows it to finish the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) faster in 8.4 seconds. The top speed of ID.5 Pro and ID.5 Pro Performance is the same – 160 km/h (99 mph).
The ID5 GTX has two motors, one at the front and one at the rear, which provide more driving performance, better traction and sporty handling. These motors together generate a power of 220 kW (295 hp). The ID.5 GTX accelerates significantly faster from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.2 seconds. That’s not all; it also offers a higher top speed of 180 km/h (111 mph).
The ID.5 and ID.5 GTX share a standard 77 kWh lithium-ion battery. Nothing is yet known about the range of the ID.5 Pro, but the ID.5 Pro Performance is expected to offer a WLTP range of 520 km (323 miles). The ID.5 GTX is expected to deliver a WLTP range of 480 km (298 miles).
Customers can charge the ID.5 and its GTX variant with an output of up to 11 kW at an AC charging station or wallbox or with an output of up to 135 kW at a DC charging station. Charging with 135 kW for around 30 minutes enables a range increase of 390 km (242 miles) for the ID.5 and 320 km (199 miles) for the ID.5 GTX.
Inner
As this electric vehicle prepares to compete with the new Nissan Ariya , Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E , manufacturers tried to give the cars a glimpse of the future inside. As the photos show, the touchscreen display is located in the center of the dashboard, making it easier for the driver to operate. You won’t find much inside the car, but the steering has retained its round shape like in many other cars.
The colors used inside the car made the design somehow different. The steering wheel, display housing and control panels in the doors are in Piano Black. Of course, VW gave customers an option and according to their will, these facilities could also be in Electric White. The humor of the Germans could be seen on the pedals. The brake pedal has a sign like the “pause” buttons and the accelerator pedal has a “play”.
What makes a lot of sense in this car is the play with light. The Volkswagen ID5 has a fixed panoramic glass roof that gives passengers a great view of the outside. There are also 30 color options to make the interior colorful. The VW ID.5 also has a new “ID Light” option. This includes the light bar under the window pane, which uses colors to signal the car’s locking situation and incoming calls. It also gives the driver a warning signal when they need to brake to avoid a collision.
