VW Touareg 2025: Price, consumption, picture, technical data.
As with any other new VW release, the biggest thing about this VW Touareg is the new MLB platform. This will be the common platform for all VW Group vehicles to reduce production costs and spare parts costs.
VW Touareg
The facelifted model (third generation) has been seen several times this year. It has been spotted on the road and in traffic wearing heavy camouflage over the front and rear. What we could see is that the model is also undergoing a major makeover inside and out. The updates for the engine are not official but we expect the slightly better versions of petrol and diesel engines. A hybrid version is not out of the picture especially after they announced the new MLB platform.
Release date and price
Chances are the VW Touareg will arrive as a 2021 model. The point is that it will be unveiled next year, but you’ll have to wait until to buy some of the US dealers. The price of the VW Touareg will be a bit higher due to all the changes. Since it’s a new platform with a redesigned body, better engines and new technology for the interior, expect higher prices in all markets. You can find the new VW Touareg for €51,350 (Euros) in the Europe, which is almost €2,000 (Euros) higher than what you’d have to pay for the current model. Expect higher prices in Europe.
Design
Most of the VW Touareg we were allowed to review wasn’t under the camouflage. But that was just enough to hide any updates we cared about. However, we do know for sure that the dimensions of the vehicle will remain the same. We know this because there were some spy shots of a three-row SUV earlier this year. That SUV had almost the same dimensions as the VW Touareg.
The style will be similar to that of the T-Prime concept or something you can expect from the redesigned Passat. If they follow these cues, expect a large grille with new headlights and LED daytime running lights. Front and rear bumpers will be stylistically different, sportier and more angular than before. In the rear, the thinner backlights will be placed high and lots of chrome around the bumpers.
The overall design will be much lighter, which of course comes with the new platform. All companies now tend to drop the heavy materials and they look for new ones to have more fuel efficient vehicles. That’s why almost every car manufacturer now has a new platform.
inner space
Inside the VW Touareg, you can expect enough space for more than just five people. Yes, the vehicle is approved for five, but it is huge. It has always been a vehicle with a lot of comfort. However, we must stress that it is not produced as a three-row version.
The overall space inside the cabin will be a little bigger considering VW has announced a lower seat height. This different seat design means we have more head and shoulder space, but it could be a problem for the knees and toes of some taller people.
Inside, everything was good and no one had anything to cry about, except maybe the infotainment system. That’s fixed in this redesigned interior. There’s a 15-inch central display in the middle of the console, a modernized instrument cluster and door panels made of premium leather. The quality of the seats will vary from trim to trim, but expect only the best. This is a VW, after all.
engine
It’s a no-brainer when we come to the topic of the VW Touareg’s engine options. Diesel and petrol engines are the standard offering in the VW’s arsenal. The Europa will be an open market for the all-new 300bhp 3.0-litre V6 engine, while for the Europa you should expect a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel with at least 220bhp. Alongside these options, there will be a hybrid option. We have no idea which engine they will choose, but expect the highest output (somewhere around 400bhp).
The brand new engine will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, but only for Europe and Asia.
Fuel economy is better than the last model. Since we don’t have official data, last year’s EPA rates were 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway/19 mpg combined. Since there are spaceships that burn less fuel, VW had to do something. That’s why they now have a completely different platform, lighter materials, and better engines.
VW Touareg Summary
All previous versions of the VW Touareg were too small in the cargo area, too thirsty for fuel and two steps behind in the quality of the infotainment system. Even the top-of-the-range VW Touareg Executive trim level had terrible infotainment. Not so bad if you’re used to the regular cassette player, but when you pay more than €50,000 (Euros) for a car, you expect perfection.
We hope to see things differently this time. That’s why we were so happy because we saw a different display on the console and the news about the platform change.
